While continuing its Border Partol, Menelaus encounters on a mysterious ship seemingly trapped in a temporal anomaly.
First Officers log, Stardate 101002
All started nicely with a very routine duty shift. Due to shortage on bridge crew Fred McCallen took double duty of OPS and helm, Reina got her usual position and Sarheni had an eye on the engines until Data Giant could come up from supervising some repairs on deck 8
I overlooked also communications. Fred noticed an object on long range scanners emitting low energy. we fount it not of natural cause, so we went closer. It was a ship of unknown origin. The energy was in no way threatening to us, except it confused our sensors. Reina boosted the sensors a bit by using 6 probes and kept scanning for company. A as probe modified test cylinder was sent to the ship to see for life signs and later was beamed into the ship. As the air was breathable and no life signs detected an away team was assembled and the captain informed. Reina was left in charge of the bridge as she was decoding some small signals she had detected earlier from unknown direction, aligned towards that ship. she made it later out to be some sort of code.
We beamed over our weapons drawn and the ship rose a weird feeling in myself. We still went on and found plenty of life on board coming in and out of our sensors. One was an monster type who warned us we all would die. We left that room as soonest as possible. The communication with the Menelaus was lost therefore it seems we cant be beamed out, at least we haven't been so far.
The away team ventured forward to find a command centrum or something similar. While on route Lt. Cmdr Kanto noticed that some technology was partly alive in the case she saw some wires connected to a monitor. Soon after we met a humanoid calling herself Zwee Keiko. She warned us not to go to the lower levels of the ship as they were full of monsters as she called it. On our query on how long she was there she answered with a riddle "How long? I just got here, I'm still arriving here, and Ive been here for aeons."
She also told us that this was a science ship which went into a temporal rift and now was kind of alive and picking up people from different dimensions on random. All so far have died on madness and our human companions would soon suffer the same.
I will keep her warning in mind while trying with the rest of the away team to escape before we go mad and kill each other. I am lucky that I have data with me, who with his strength and logical mind will be of big help, when we start to loose it. It is my intend though to escape before we even show signs of it. Maybe we can also help that girl too, she seemed in the early stages of madness to me at least.
Captains Log, Stardate 101009
Menelaus has lost contact with the away team. Initial scans show a build up of chroniton particles and then the ship disappeared. To add to this a temporal radiation had also formed where the ship was that was causing adverse effects on the crew. It was very clear that we couldn't stay around for long so we withdrew from the radiation cloud to regroup.
After consulting with the remaining bridge crew it was deemed that with some alterations to the ships systems we could make an attempt to rescue our people. Lieutenant Commander Beaumont believes that she could configure the phasers to fire at a low setting of antichonitons at the ship, but because of the level of chronitons and the time scale we have in the radiation cloud it was deemed that even with the ship in MVAM mode we would not be able to stabilise the alien ship in this time period without losing the Menelaus.
Ensign Ogden then believed he could use the shields to temporarily reduce the effectiveness of the chronitons along with an ingenious idea to create a chroniton field throughout the ship using the warpcore and the bio-neural circuitry. They got to work and after a time things were ready. Now we just needed to find the ship. Reina believed she could use the deflector dish to send out a sequence of pulses to the ships last known position that would cause it to phase back to this time period enough for the phasers to do there work. I had to trust my crew here, temporal mechanics is something I never got the grasp of.
So it began, the ship entered MVAM and we took position, the pulse was fired and the ship indeed, as Lieutenant Commander Beaumont has hypothesised, came back into temporal phase. All the sections of the Menelaus opened fire on the ship and slowly but surely dragged it back into this temporal plane. The shield & Chroniton field combination protecting the ship was working and bought us the time we needed to get transporter lock and bring our people home, along with a few others who the away team had managed to rescue.
Bar restoring the ship to its previous configuration, Menelaus has come through this latest threat intact and I am so proud of the way the crew handled this latest crisis
