Before heading back to Pinastri Sector 001 to brief Starfleet Command on the Mendari situation, the Captain of the Redeemer decides that we need to gather more data on this new threat.
Since the Redeemer barely made it in one piece the last time the crew tried to do a reconaissance mission, it was decided that a smaller vessel would be used this time.
SHIP MISSION LOG :: 031
USS REDEEMER - NCC-100753-A
Ship CO: Lt. Chase Quinnell
Engineering Officer: Ensign Elim Exonar
Tactical Officer: Lt. Michaels Toshi
Science/Ops Officer: Lt. Jg Orion Pastorelli
Helm Officer: Lt. Jg Diemme Morane
Lt. Quinnell decided that it would be necessary to gather more data on the Mendari, in order to further understand them. He wanted to know things like their history, where they came from, why they're here, as well as any technological abilities they had.
A small delta flyer class shuttle was launched and discreetly entered the Mendari's system. Ensign Exonar offered to do a space-walk on a Mendari cruiser which appeared to be undergoing maintenance and had little to no security measures in place.
During the space walk, Elim managed to gather some data from their computer cores before he was attacked by some sort of automatic security drone. He was beamed back just in time and the Delta Flyer made a hasty retreat.
[13:19] Chase Quinnell: Helm, are we clear of the shuttlebay?
[13:20] Diemme Morane is very excited at piloting a Delta Flyer again..
[13:20] Orion Pastorelli starts tapping on his console in a rythimic pattern...
[13:20] Diemme Morane: Aye sir, we've just cleared it
[13:20] michaels Toshi runs diagnostics nervously, checking and double checking
[13:20] Chase Quinnell: Set course for the designated coordinates.
[13:20] Chase Quinnell: Engage, warp 5.
[13:20] Diemme Morane flicks the big switch that extends the warp nacelles...
[13:21] Diemme Morane: Warp 5 engaged. Course laid in for sector 351-Z, sir
[13:21] Diemme Morane: ETA to region, 3 minutes at current speed.
[13:21] Chase Quinnell: Science, try to gather astrometrical data of this region. I want to know their space as much as they probably do.
[13:22] Orion Pastorelli: yes sir
[13:22] Chase Quinnell: Engineering, try to find weaknesses in their ships. There should be a small waystation with one or two of their cruisers at our destination point.
[13:22] Elim Exonar: sir, once we get into their space, I think we should limit our power consumption
[13:22] Diemme Morane runs a diagnostic on the helm systems... just to make sure...
[13:22] Chase Quinnell: Make it so, Mr. Exonar.
[13:22] Elim Exonar: I recommend we keep minimum life support and basic shields only
[13:22] Elim Exonar: also, we should use minimum impulse only
[13:22] Elim Exonar: thrusters would be preferable
[13:23] Elim Exonar: ok people, I'm about to make you 20% lighter
[13:23] michaels Toshi takes weapons offline and brings shields down to 5% power
[13:23] Orion Pastorelli inciates long-range sensor sweeps and begins running meta-analysis of previously gathered data...
[13:23] Elim Exonar: reducing gravity plating
[13:23] Diemme Morane isn't crazy about the idea... If we need to book it out fast... we'll be delayed...
[13:23] Elim Exonar: shutting down all unnecessary lights
[13:24] Elim Exonar: I can give you full impulse and warp speed at a moment's notice
[13:24] Diemme Morane powers down non-essential systems...
[13:24] Chase Quinnell: Thanks, Elim.
[13:24] ::The flyer drops out of warp at designated coordinates::
[13:25] Diemme Morane retracts warp nacelles, switching to thrusters
[13:25] Elim Exonar: reducing life support to minimal
[13:25] Elim Exonar: it might get a bit colder folks
[13:25] Elim Exonar: reducing shield output to 25%
[13:25] Chase Quinnell: Acknowledged, Mr. Exonar.
[13:26] Orion Pastorelli: you don't say *as steam puffs from his mouth*
[13:26] Diemme Morane's nose is cold.
[13:26] Elim Exonar: Sir, the Mendari ships do not appear to see us
[13:26] Elim Exonar: either that, or they don't care
[13:27] Chase Quinnell: Start your passive scans.
[13:27] Elim Exonar: Aye sir
[13:27] Diemme Morane manoeuvers the Delta Flyer in stealth mode..
[13:27] Chase Quinnell: Keep me informed.
[13:28] michaels Toshi puts a butt warmer on his chair and looks smugly around the flyer
[13:28] Chase Quinnell: Tactical advantages, information on their traffic movements, and even info from their database if we can manage it.
[13:28] Chase Quinnell: I'll need a good set of information for when I brief Command.
[13:29] michaels Toshi: I suggest we shut down active sensors and use the scientific sensors like sweeps to keep our prfile low, inbetween the sweeps we wouldnt be able to maintain sensor contact, but we could use the computer to "guestimate" their positions
[13:30] Chase Quinnell: Alright, Michaels, make it so.
[13:30] Orion Pastorelli: sir, scans indicate thier trans-galactic portal is altering the gravametric patterns of the sector which has resulting in an artifical astroid belt orbiting the opening...
[13:30] Chase Quinnell: Hmm..
[13:30] Chase Quinnell: Intriguing.
[13:30] Orion Pastorelli: we might be able to hide there undetected
[13:31] michaels Toshi: aye, mr pastorelli, I'll be relying on you to keep my console's information up to date
[13:31] Diemme Morane: From what I can tell, I could probably navigate that asteroid belt quite easily in the Flyer
[13:31] Chase Quinnell: Not right now, Diemme.
[13:31] Chase Quinnell: We aren't going near the fleet.
[13:31] Diemme Morane: Just letting you know sir...
[13:31] Elim Exonar: Sir, I took the liberty of looking over previous sensor readings of the Mendari ships. I believe that if I were to go outside in a spacesuit, I could tap into one of their external panels and we'd have computer access
[13:32] Elim Exonar: in theory anyway
[13:32] Elim Exonar: we could download their database
[13:33] Orion Pastorelli raises a brow to Elim's suggestion.
[13:33] michaels Toshi: isnt that a little risky?
[13:33] Chase Quinnell: Indeed, it is quite risky Elim..
[13:33] michaels Toshi hopes the redeemer wont need a new engineer by the end of the mission
[13:33] Elim Exonar: a bit but I can't figure out a way to tap into their computers without direct access
[13:33] Chase Quinnell: I'm not sure I can allow you to endanger yourself too much.
[13:34] Diemme Morane doesn't wanna lose her little brother...
[13:34] Chase Quinnell: Is there a way to minimize the chance you would be seen?
[13:34] Orion Pastorelli: sir, I have to concur with mr. exonar, however, that data could be the key we need to collapse the trans-galactic portal
[13:34] Elim Exonar: in a spacesuit? not really
[13:34] Diemme Morane: Or use it...
[13:34] Elim Exonar: but then again, if they dont see us now, odds are that by the time they detect the computer tap, we'll be long gone
[13:35] Chase Quinnell: Use it... *strokes his chin*, I think it'd be in our best interests to find a way to control the portal ourselves..
[13:35] Elim Exonar: I believe so sir
[13:36] Orion Pastorelli: maybe in few decades Lt. Morane, we don't yet have technology that can generate the amount of power I am reading from the conduit...
[13:36] Chase Quinnell: Yes, Mr. Pastorelli, but we might be able to find a way to control the portal using their own tech.
[13:36] Chase Quinnell: If we could download their database files.
[13:36] Diemme Morane: Since they're not detecting us in Passive mode, I might be able to get us up closer, minimize Elim's time out there....
[13:36] Elim Exonar: we could have a better understanding of their ships as well
[13:37] Chase Quinnell: Lt. Toshi, I believe you're the ranking officer on deck.. any objections?
[13:37] michaels Toshi: the science sensors are working well, the computer is estimating ship positions with 99.5% accuracy
[13:37] michaels Toshi: I have no objects here
[13:37] Chase Quinnell: Alright.
[13:37] Chase Quinnell: Make it so Elim.
[13:37] Reina Beaumont: back in a bit
[13:37] michaels Toshi: it is the CO's choice in the matter
[13:37] Elim Exonar: Aye sir
[13:37] Chase Quinnell: Be careful out there.
[13:37] Diemme Morane: Sir, shall I move us in closer? or mantain postion?
[13:37] Orion Pastorelli: we could sneek in by way of the astoroid belt....
[13:37] Chase Quinnell: Keep an open comm channel, and try to download all pertinant data.
[13:38] Orion Pastorelli: the larger astorides could provide cover
[13:38] Chase Quinnell: Helm, take us on a course through the asteroids. Thrusters only.
[13:38] Elim Exonar starts to put on the spacesuit
[13:38] michaels Toshi frowns and listens to the rythms of the engines
[13:38] Chase Quinnell: Get us in a position where we can hide successfully.
[13:38] Diemme Morane navigates the Flyer toward the Asteroid belt...
[13:38] Chase Quinnell taps a few buttons.
[13:38] Chase Quinnell: I'll try to make us seem like a stray asteroid to their sensors.
[13:39] Diemme Morane dodges a few, tries to make our course similar to the astertoids around....
[13:39] Chase Quinnell: Once we're in position, Orion, you need to open the airlock.
[13:39] Elim Exonar takes a computer memory bank and a linking module in case the first option doesn't work
[13:39] Elim Exonar: Sir, I am ready to go
[13:39] Diemme Morane finds a particularly nice big one, right near where we need to be....
[13:40] Orion Pastorelli: detecting high levels of heavy mineral deposts, that should interfer with thier sensors...
[13:40] Orion Pastorelli: aye sir,
[13:40] Orion Pastorelli: maning airlock
[13:40] Diemme Morane deftly swings the Flyer in a way that looks random to the location...
[13:40] Chase Quinnell: Are we in position, Helm?
[13:40] Diemme Morane: We're in position sir.
[13:40] Orion Pastorelli smiles, "fancy flying Lt. Morane
[13:40] Chase Quinnell: Elim, good luck.
[13:40] Chase Quinnell: Open the airlock, Mr. Pastorelli.
[13:41] Orion Pastorelli: airlock open sir
[13:41] Diemme Morane grins proudly... love this ship....
[13:41] Diemme Morane: *craft*
[13:41] Orion Pastorelli taps the console
[13:42] Elim Exonar: =^= Elim to Delta Flyer: I am outside and on my way to the Mendari ship =^=
[13:42] Elim Exonar: =^= I will reach it in approximately 1 minute =^=
[13:42] Elim Exonar: =^= It's.... huge =^=
[13:42] Diemme Morane thinks... if he gets himself killed, I'm going to be so mad at him.
[13:43] Elim Exonar: =^= It appears to be made of a duranium composite similar to Klingon vessels =^=
[13:43] Orion Pastorelli continues to gage the ships detectablity relative the Mendari fleet...
[13:44] Elim Exonar: =^= quite sturdy in construction but not too aestetically pleasing =^=
[13:44] Elim Exonar: =^= the hull in not smooth like a Federation or Romulan vessel but practical. I see conduits and raised panels =^=
[13:44] Diemme Morane tweaks the Delta Flyer to a better spot behind the Asteroid...
[13:44] Elim Exonar: =^= I have reached the Mendari ship =^=
[13:45] Elim Exonar: =^= I am positioned near what appears to be a phaser array =^=
[13:45] Chase Quinnell: =/\= Elim, I've established an uplink to your suit. I will receive all downloaded data and sensor logs quickly after your suit processes them =/\=
[13:45] Elim Exonar: =^= and I am making my way towards what appears to be an airlock =^=
[13:46] Elim Exonar: =^= I see no windows to peak inside =^=
[13:46] Chase Quinnell: =/\= Acknowledged. Keep a low profile. Stay close to the hull. =/\=
[13:46] Elim Exonar: =^= I see a sensor node about 10 meters away =^=
[13:46] Chase Quinnell: =/\= Avoid that node if possible =/\=
[13:46] Elim Exonar: =^= Aye sir =^=
[13:47] Orion Pastorelli narrows his eyes, =^= " Mr. Exonar, can you lower your suits core temp any lower? I worried they might detect your heat signature..."=^=
[13:47] Elim Exonar: =^= Lowering suit to keep it around 0 degrees celsius sir... I'm going to need a thermal blanket when I come back =^=
[13:48] Elim Exonar: =^= I found a data conduit sir. I think I can open it from here =^=
[13:49] Elim Exonar: =^= I can't see any alarm or detection systems like we would have. They don't seem to be overly worried about security =^=
[13:49] Elim Exonar: =^= Or they don't think someone would try a stunt like this =^=
[13:50] Elim Exonar: =^= Whoa! =^=
[13:50] Orion Pastorelli: =^= mr. exonar I am uploading various algorithms that should aid in interfacing with their systems.=^=
[13:50] Elim Exonar: =^= I have no idea what this is =^=
[13:51] Elim Exonar: =^= The main data conduits seem to be composed of a liquid instead of cables like we have =^=
[13:51] Elim Exonar: =^= They connect through a metallic hub which contains a data port =^=
[13:51] Elim Exonar: =^= I am attempting to connect the remote module =^=
[13:51] Chase Quinnell: =/\= Any idea what it does? =/\=
[13:52] Elim Exonar: =^= If I were to venture a guess, I'd say that the data is someone transmitted via this liquid substance =^=
[13:52] Orion Pastorelli: =^= could be technology similar to our gel packs for data processing, make sure not to expose to vacuum=^=
[13:53] Diemme Morane: bio-neural?
[13:53] Elim Exonar: =^= Ok, the remote module is active. Are you getting data on the ship? =^=
[13:53] Chase Quinnell: =/\= Yes, I am. Data being received =/\=
[13:53] Orion Pastorelli: I susspect so Lt, but this is not my area of expertise
[13:54] Elim Exonar: =^= Are we getting random data or do we have computer access? =^=
[13:55] Chase Quinnell: =/\= Random data =/\=
[13:55] Orion Pastorelli: =^= hard to tell, attempting to adapt the UT to assist with data processing and interfacing =^=
[13:55] Elim Exonar: =^= I was afraid of that. I think we're getting data only from active systems or data that is requested by the crew =^=
[13:56] Elim Exonar: =^= I could leave the device here sir and hide it so that anytime we come into contact with this ship, we'd have access to this information =^=
[13:58] Chase Quinnell: =/\= Good idea. Make it so! =/\=
[13:58] Elim Exonar: Aye sir
[13:58] michaels Toshi keeps his eyes fixatd on the sensor sweeps
[13:58] Orion Pastorelli: sir, thats an excellent idea, and since our access to data is event based, all we need to do is wait for this ship to interface with the conduit
[13:58] Elim Exonar moves the remote transmission module behind the liquid conduit and starts to seal the panel
[13:59] Elim Exonar: =^= Sir, i would like to take a look at that sensor node and that phaser array which i saw ealier. I might reveal information about their capabilities =^=
[14:00] Elim Exonar: =^= And I'm sure I could find a shield array somewhere too =^=
[14:00] Chase Quinnell: =/\= Is that wise? You might be detected =/\=
[14:01] Orion Pastorelli notices a little alarm go off in the corner of his screen and turns to the captain, "I need to inform you mr. Exonar is starting to show signs of hypothermia, recommend he returns to the ship"
[14:01] Elim Exonar: =^= I'll be careful sir
[14:01] Elim Exonar: =^= This might be our only chance =^=
[14:01] Elim Exonar: =^= It's on my way anyway =^=
[14:01] Orion Pastorelli looks to the captain, " your call sir."
[14:01] Elim Exonar starts to make his way back
[14:02] Elim Exonar takes out his tricorder and scans on passive mode
[14:02] Elim Exonar: =^= Shield output his 450 TerraHertz =^=
[14:02] Diemme Morane wishes we could just transport him back... grr....
[14:02] Chase Quinnell: =/\= Make it so.. =/\=
[14:03] Elim Exonar: =^= I have reached the sensor array =^=
[14:03] Orion Pastorelli: =^= are you dedecting any mulit-phasic properties, mr.exonar? =^=
[14:03] Elim Exonar: =^= Fascinating! Those sensors are very similar to the Old Constitution class sensors =^=
[14:04] Elim Exonar: I detect no multispacial capabilities
[14:04] Elim Exonar: =^= They don't seem to penetrate subspace very far either =^=
[14:04] Chase Quinnell: =/\= That could be to our advantage.
[14:05] Elim Exonar: =^= But their range is much farther then what we can see on the EM spectrum
[14:05] Elim Exonar: =^= This explains why they can't see us. They must think that anything which doesn't emmit a big EM signature is no threat and not worth their time =^=
[14:05] Elim Exonar: =^= Let me check the phaser array =^=
[14:06] Elim Exonar makes is way to the phaser array
[14:06] Orion Pastorelli: =^= understood, thats interesting there basic ship design seems rather primitive compared to thier trans-galactic conduit...=^=
[14:06] michaels Toshi: they make up for it in umbers though
[14:06] Chase Quinnell: =/\= Explains the need for such a massive fleet. =/\=
[14:06] Chase Quinnell: Exactly, Michaels.
[14:06] Chase Quinnell: They hunt like wolves.
[14:06] Elim Exonar: =^= Sir, my tricorder tell me that I shouldn't go near that phaser array. It emmit dangerous levels of energy =^=
[14:06] michaels Toshi: numbers*
[14:06] Chase Quinnell: Overwhelming in packs
[14:07] Diemme Morane: ants
[14:07] Chase Quinnell: =/\= Then don't, Elim. =/\=
[14:07] Elim Exonar suddenly sees a shadow behind him
[14:07] Elim Exonar: =^= Sir, something is moving out here
[14:07] Chase Quinnell: =/\= I think we have what we need-- =/\=
[14:07] Diemme Morane: If he gets himself shot, I'll kill him...
[14:07] Chase Quinnell: =/\= Elim, get back here now! =/\=
[14:07] Orion Pastorelli again silences the small bio-alarm, "sir, he need to either raise suits temp or make his way back"
[14:08] Elim Exonar: =^= Zzttk... eam m... out!..... Be... e ou..!!!!!!
[14:08] Chase Quinnell: Beam him outta there
[14:08] Chase Quinnell: ENERGISE!
[14:08] Elim Exonar: =^= ...lp!!!
[14:08] Chase Quinnell: Boosting power to all systems...
[14:09] Orion Pastorelli sir! I have him targeted and engergise
[14:09] Chase Quinnell: Helm, get us out of here.
[14:09] Chase Quinnell: Engage maximum warp.
[14:09] Orion Pastorelli: this will reviel out posssion!
[14:09] Elim Exonar: GO GO GO!!!!!!!!
[14:09] Diemme Morane pulls the big grey lever that extends the Warp Nacelles, and flicks the switch that engages Warp drive
[14:09] michaels Toshi: Raise shields?
[14:10] Chase Quinnell: Get us out of here now.
[14:10] Elim Exonar: Sir, they have tactical drones patrolling the surface of their ships
[14:10] Elim Exonar: They know we're here
[14:10] Elim Exonar: Computer resume full power to all systems
[14:10] Diemme Morane floors the ship into maximum warp...
[14:10] Elim Exonar: =^= Full power is restored =^=
[14:10] michaels Toshi: raising shields
[14:10] ::The ships do not pursue..::
[14:10] Orion Pastorelli bites his lips, " we were stupid to think they neglected security, they just do it differently...."
[14:11] Diemme Morane: ::The Delta Flyer is careening through the Asteroid belt::
[14:11] Elim Exonar: I did get a full tricorder reading on that tactical drone sir
[14:11] michaels Toshi drops shields as he notices the ships not following
[14:11] Elim Exonar: I can write a report on it
[14:11] Chase Quinnell: Do it, Elim. I want that report sent to me by tomorrow morning.
[14:11] Elim Exonar: Aye sir
