Prelude

Crew of the USS Sheppard,

It is with great pleasure to announce we are finally ready for launch. Although we are not at our best we have two ships in distress. I have coordinated with other Federation ships that are on route and we are proceeding directly to the source of the USS Maxwell's distress call. In order to get there in time, we will need to utilize our Quantum Slipstream Drive (QSD). We should be able to make it to Hapke 5283 in four hours.

As I said, we are not at our best. The refit has not been completed, our crew compliment is not full and we have only enough supplies for a short duration. In addition to our current crew, Commodore Stormchyld is allowing 30 of his best cadets to bolster our diminished ranks. I expect the best from each and everyone of you. This will not be an easy road but we will travel down it together. Be strong, our fleet needs us.

Captain's Log, Stardate 180608

I was prepared for a rough journey from the beginning but luck didn't appear to be in our favor. Leaving the Peedy Thor and engaging the Quantum Slipstream drive went off without a hitch. We traveled for 3.8 hour when an apparent power surge overloaded the QSD and fried a part. We had to reduce to conventional warp speeds. While we attempted to figure out the issue we received a distress call from the is Neribou Mining Stations Urochs 6 in the Pryank System. They were experiencing a cascade power failure. Primary power was offline, and secondary power was failing rapidly. They were running out of life support, and already had 87 crew with CO2 poisoning. We immediately went to their aid. I ordered XO Fema Firefrick to assemble an away team to assist with injuries and repair their damaged systems.

While the away team was taking care of the station problems we had issues of our own on the Sheppard. The Warp drive was nearing the red line for potential damage since we had to push our engines to the max in order to reach the station before their life support system completely failed. We picked up three new contacts, Karutak warships that saw us as invading their territory were on an intercept course. I went to red alert since they were armed for battle. I spoke to Alpha Lrrvekh of the KNS Hhkhrrk and informed them we are not invading but rendering aid. Initially, Alpha Lrrvekh intended to board us or destroy us. After some discussion, he gave us the opportunity to retrieve our people and leave the system without a fight. I didn't have much choice, I lowered weapons and rear shields so I could retrieve our team. Afterwards, I attempting to show a sign of peace which was met with vicious intimidation as Alpha Lrrvekh tore apart the station administrator we had just saved from suffocation. I were informed that would be me next time. I ordered us out of the system.

The Sheppard received a distress message, we made it to the station and an away team went down to assist the inhabitants. Another ship arrived and threatened the Sheppard. Commander Lombardia managed to get them to allow us to finish and leave without conflict although they did kill one of the inhabitants on screen for us to see.

Begin Log Entry

Crew assembled and assigned stations taken. Ships status by department was given to the CO. All systems operational and all Departments maned. The CO informed the ship compliment it was time began the mission to undock from the SS Peedy Thor and join the TASK FORCE at Hapke 5283. The reactor was brought to full power and the drive/propulsion systems made operational. The Peedy Thor gave us clearance and Docking Control began releasing the Sheppard from ""Hard-Dock"". We moved away from the Peedy Thor, when cleared we went to warp on Warp Drive transitioning to Quantum Drive.

After 3 hours flight time, the Engine Room informed the Bridge there was an anomaly in the 'QSD' forcing us to revert to warp drive and then Impulse speed. Upon investigation it was discovered that the ""Interface Modulator"" of the 'QSD' ""Gravity Field Generator"" had failed. The Sheppard carries no spare and accommodation would need to be made.

At this time we received a distress signal from a small mining colony near our destination and we diverted to its location. They informed us their Life Support System had failed and I lead an Away-Team of engineering and medical staff to them on the colony. The Medical Staff initiated emergency procedures and I rendered repairs on the Life Support unit. While the Away-Team was proceeding with it's objectives, the Sheppard was accosted and then attacked by 3 Karutak space craft and a short battle ensued. While I monitored the Comm. channel I learned that communications was finally established with the Karutak and they understood we were engaged in emergency operations on the colony they claim. Negotiations were undertaken with them. After effecting repairs and medical aid we were allowed to vacate the colony and continue on Mission.
