The USS Sheppard is engaged in training missions prior to its launch. This first mission is based around the a damaged Defiant-class USS Arrow and is being held in the Cascadia shipyards holodeck.
The crew of the Sheppard has been dispatched to repair and recover a Defiant-class ship detected derelict within a nebula by the USS Sabre. The ship is registered as the USS Arrow, declared lost over a year ago from the Alpha quadrant. I had intended to wait for the Sheppard to return to Pinastri and pick myself and the rest of the crew up before embarking on this mission; however, Command has asked me to begin recovery as soon as possible and released two runabouts for my use.
It seems that with the recent loss of the Aviator and the spike in pirate activity, they are concerned about the possibility of this ship falling into the wrong hands. I am not completly thrilled with leaving without the Sheppard but they shouldnt be long behind us, and it is important we recover the ship as well as investigate the exact reasons for it being here.

Captain's log, supplemental.
It seems that we were not the only ones intending to recover the USS Arrow. When we boarded we discovered multiple intruders intent on claiming the ship as their own. After explaining that the ship was our property, things quickly degraded into a firefight, with the intruders leaving the ship quickly. We had one injury, that of Ensign Hamelin who was stunned. After the intruders left, we quickly got the Arrow's systems back online, only to find that the intruders were then trying to steal the runabout we left outside using their own ship, which had up to that point remained undectected in the nebula.
Unfortunately, they remained violent and we had to defend ourselves. We managed to damage the alien ship and make it retreat, however they did make away with our runabout.
I've laid us over for repairs in a nearby gas pocket and will be laying in a pursuit course as soon as we have warp available. I've also sent a message to the Sheppard; they are, however ,still days away at high warp so they will have to catch up with us as we follow the trail.
