Commanding Officer Poison Toocool - Log, Stardate 120420: The Mak'ala has been on the surface of a Class L planetoid for several days while repairs of the vessel are being completed. Marines and Security teams are deployed around the ship, and we are modulating shields in the hope of avoiding any further visits from the Alien Entity that kidnapped Dr Markus. The Doctor seems to have recovered her memory, and has been under observation for the past few days. She has requested to return to duty and all reports are good, so I have given my permission for her to resume her work.
Engineering repairs are going well. The question is where to go next, as we are still unsure of where we are, or how we got here. We hope, after leaving here, to return to the coordinates where we entered this system, and perform a complete scan, obtaining data that may assist us to return to Astraios space.
The planet atmosphere has been highly charged during an electrical storm, which seems to be calming down, and we will soon be ready to leave.

Reporting: Commanding Officer USS Mak'ala (Cptn Poison Toocool):
After a full briefing it seemed ship's systems were repaired and we were ready to return to space. I asked our Chief Engineer to personally take the helm as this would be the first time the Mak'ala took off from a planet surface. The Doctor had been cleared for duty and I was pleased to see her on the bridge again. At 120422.1215 I gave the order to engage thrusters. We had 10,000 kilometers to travel to escape planet's atmosphere.
At 2,200 kilometers, Engineering reported an explosion and fire. I ordered we pause our ascent while this situation was dealt with. It appeared to be a malfunction, the fire was supressed and we continued on our way. External temperature rose and shields were up but only at 80% due to power drain. Then, strangely life support began to fail. The Doctor agreed with me that we should remain in atmosphere whilst we dealt with this issue. She said something about Life must always be preserved.
I ordered stationkeeping at 4,000 kilometeres. The XO evacuated decks 4 to 7 and transferred power to OPs. The Doctor requested she return to sick bay to assist her team, I gave permission, just as security informed me Dr Markus had been in Engineering prior to our departure. This seemed odd and she had no explanation - she had only just returned to duty. I reluctantly asked her to return to quarters, accompanied by a security team. We dealt with the power consumption issue and were working on getting shield strength back up when security advised the Doctor had escaped. We located her in Cargo Bay 2 and teams were dispatched to return her to quarters. It turned out to be just her com badge.
Suddenly a shuttle was launched without authorization and we were unable to close shuttle bay doors quickly enough to prevent it leaving. Of course the Doctor was aboard. I tried to reason with her but she insisted on returning to the planet, finally we fired at her right nacelle and took it out. As we tried to lock a tractor beam on her, the Alien Entity materialized next to the shuttle. It was then I heard the Doctor say she couldn't resist it, and she begged me for help. We disabled the shuttle's left nacelle. We fired at the Alien but it wasn't affected. I ordered Helm and Security to coordinate. The XO was managing the tractor beam. We were to fire black matter at the Alien while simultaneously lowering aft shields, beaming the Doctor aboard, and raising shields again. I also ordered shields be modulated to differing frequencies at fast intervals to keep the Alien at bay.
At 1304 we executed our plan and were successful in beaming the Doctor back. With the shuttle still in tractor beam, we ascended into space. Long range sensor data reveals an alien vessel 10 light years from our position. I'd like to rest in orbit for a few hours while we sort ourselves out but... it's too close to the Alien Entity for comfort.
(On a personal note, I seem to be suffering from eye strain again... it's been over a year since the phaser battle which cost me my sight for a couple of days. I'm wearing the glasses Dr Landfall prescribed. I think it was triggered by the dampening field on the planet below. I'm sure I'll be okay once I can rest. I really need to return to base form for several hours but there is no time right now.)

RE: Joint Medical/Science Report on Dr. Markus's condition
Science and Medical have discussed Dr. Markus's condition and have agreed on the best course of treatment/action.
We are of the opinion that the Alien Entity has not been able to completely take over Dr. Markus. This is was evidenced by Dr. Markus's earlier struggle to maintain her self control against the Alien Entity, albeit unsuccessfully. We believe the reason for this lies with Dr. Markus being half Human, half Vulcan.
We have aboard the Mak'ala, a Vulcan Ensign, Saratok, working in Computer Sciences. Having regard to the present circumstances, the Ensign has agreed to Mind Meld with Dr. Markus. The purpose being to assist and enable Dr. Markus to focus the Vulcan half of herself in overcoming the influence of the Alien Entity. It would also enable Saratok to gain an insight into the Alien Entity, with a view to being able to communicate with it, should the need or opportunity arise. Being a Vulcan, Saratok would be more able to keep self control and not become unduly influenced by the Alien Entity.
We hope to report soon on the successful outcome of the Mind Meld.
