________________________________________

The Redeemer's repairs in drydock had just been completed, and we were orbiting Pinastri preparing for our next assignment. We hailed the Tranquility station but our signal got redirected to Admiral Mike Calhoun's office.

Chase Quinnell: Wha...that isn't Ops--
Admiral Calhoun: Mr. Quinnell, you've been ordered to the Dyrhill system to investigate a mineral known as the Dyrhill Shards. They have un-explainable medical healing properties.
Chase Quinnell: Aye sir, I'd be delighted. I'm sure my science officers would agree.
Admiral Calhoun: You are to leave as soon as it's convenient.. and try not to get another 8 meter hole in your hull again.
Chase Quinnell: Aye sir.. Quinnell out. *smiles*
________________________________________

The Redeemer set course for the Dyrhill system as science teams prepared for the task ahead. The ship arrived at Dyrhill and began scanning the planet for some Dyrhill Crystals. Tachyon radiation was detected and was determined to be the location of the crystals. The transporters had a slight problem locking on, but it was corrected by engineering.

The science teams began studying the crystals in the science lab. During their studies, the ship began experiencing slight power fluctuations. Shields became in-operable and consoles and light started flashing. The problem was corrected temporarily by erecting a forcefield around the crystals.
________________________________________

It was determined that the crystals were similer to Earth's quartz; accumulating power. We figured we should try to find a way to discharge that power and control it. The environment continued to pull energy from the area, meaning that the Redeemer couldn't stick around very long.

It was determined a tachyon beam could get the crystals to discharge their energy. These crystals have enormous potential as capacitors and as a healing medium.

[13:19] Vinnie Lei sends the helm officer a blowhorn audiosignal.
[13:20] Chase Quinnell: Aye sir, I'd be delighted. I'm sure my science officers would agree.
[13:21] PureNRG Kungfu: aye
[13:21] Karl Roeth: indeed
[13:21] Admiral Calhoun: =A= You are to leave as soon as it's convenient.. and try not to get another 8 meter hole in your hull again. =A=
[13:22] Chase Quinnell: Aye sir.. Quinnell out. *smiles*
[13:22] Chase Quinnell: Helm, set course for the Dyrhill system.
[13:23] Diemme Morane: Aye sir, course laid in
[13:23] Diemme Morane: Engaging Warp drive.
[13:23] Chase Quinnell: Science officers, get your teams ready so they may study the shards when we arrive.
[13:23] Diemme Morane: ETA To Dryhill, 3 minutes
[13:23] PureNRG Kungfu: aye
[13:24] Orion Pastorelli does a quick inventory diagnostic, "Hmm they did a good job patching her up, never know we had giant hole in the hull.."
[13:24] Diemme Morane runs a couple of checks and diagnostics, all systems functioning beautifully, repair crews did a bangup job.
[13:24] Vinnie Lei: Yeah, but we surelu kicked some borg rear ends!
[13:24] Diemme Morane learned to duck real quick
[13:24] Chase Quinnell: Cadet, I'd like you to coordinate with the science officers on their efforts to study the shards.
[13:25] Elim Exonar: Aye Sir
[13:25] Diemme Morane still misses her drinking buddy, Chief Marone.
[13:26]  ::The ship is nearing its destination::
[13:26] Elim Exonar: how can I be of assistance to you?
[13:26] Diemme Morane drops us out of warp.
[13:27] Diemme Morane sets coordinates to geosynchronous orbit.
[13:27] Diemme Morane: We've arrived at the coordinates sir.
[13:27] PureNRG Kungfu: thats the place
[13:27] Orion Pastorelli uplink power allocation metrics to engineering...
[13:27] Karl Roeth: aye sir
[13:28] Karl Roeth: receiving metrics
[13:28] PureNRG Kungfu: i am picking you some tacion read out from the planet sir
[13:28] Karl Roeth: systems nominal
[13:28] PureNRG Kungfu: it could be a high concentration of crystals
[13:29] Chase Quinnell: Once we have the shards, I'd like all science officers to begin conducting tests on them. Try to find out if their healing properties can be used by Starfleet Medical.
[13:29] PureNRG Kungfu: aye sir
[13:29] Orion Pastorelli: lateral sensor array confirming mr. Kungfu's readout...
[13:30] Chase Quinnell: Ops, can you lock onto that signal and beam it up?
[13:30] Orion Pastorelli: aye sir, locking on now
[13:30] Diemme Morane tweaks the ship into a slightly closer position...
[13:30] PureNRG Kungfu: maybe we can refine our scans to make sure it's the crystals sir
[13:30] Vinnie Lei: Captain, the environment seems to be affecting our shields capabilities. Just in case we might need it.
[13:30] Chase Quinnell nods. "Thank's Lt vinnie"
[13:31] Chase Quinnell: Keep me informed.
[13:31] Vinnie Lei: yessir.
[13:31] Chase Quinnell: See if you can do that, Crewman.
[13:31] Orion Pastorelli frowns, "sir, having trouble with transporter resolution, can't seem to lock on..."
[13:32] Chase Quinnell: Try to compensate Orion.
[13:32] Orion Pastorelli: Engineering please recalibrate isolinier targeting modules...
[13:32] Orion Pastorelli: aye sir
[13:33] Chase Quinnell: Cadet, see if you can assist Orion in getting the crystals beamed up.
[13:33] Elim Exonar: Aye Sir
[13:34] Orion Pastorelli: thank you cadet the problem is here along this isoliner conduit
[13:34] Elim Exonar: what if we bypassed power from the auxiliary fusion generator to the main targeting sensor?
[13:35] Elim Exonar: wouldn't that boost confinement beam?
[13:35] Orion Pastorelli: brillient!, that did the trick, sir we have a lock
[13:35] Chase Quinnell: Energise Mr. Pastorelli.
[13:35] Orion Pastorelli: energizing to transporter room one
[13:36] Chase Quinnell: Have a science team take it to the science lab. Crewman, I want you to be my eyes and ears. Relay what they do down there for me.
[13:36] Vinnie Lei: Sir, power fluctuations in the shields and weapons systems! *pushes quickly on his LCARS buttons*
[13:36] Chase Quinnell: Explain.
[13:36] Vinnie Lei looks around, seeing the lights flickering.
[13:37] Vinnie Lei: It started when we beamed aboard the crystals, sir.
[13:37] michaels Toshi: oh god darn
[13:37] Chase Quinnell cocks his head to one side, annoyed.
[13:37] Orion Pastorelli blinks as the bridge displays go crazy...
[13:37] Elim Exonar: can we erect a force field around the samples?
[13:37] Chase Quinnell: Engineering, can you reverse the effects?
[13:37] PureNRG Kungfu: we should put a containment field on those crystals sir
[13:37] michaels Toshi helps orion push some buttons looking at the power fluctuations
[13:37] Vinnie Lei looks annoyed: Shields inoperable.
[13:38] Diemme Morane tries to keep the helm working....
[13:38] Orion Pastorelli: mr kungfu is right contain those crystals
[13:38] Chase Quinnell: Cadet, work with Engineering. Help them erect a forcefield.
[13:38] Diemme Morane: Captain, helm controls seem to be .... twitchy
[13:38] Elim Exonar: Aye Sir
[13:38] Karl Roeth: working on it sir
[13:39] Chase Quinnell looks at the flickering consoles.
[13:39] Chase Quinnell frowns.
[13:39] Vinnie Lei: It sure ain't christmas yet...
[13:39] Elim Exonar: look at those power drain readings
[13:39] Diemme Morane: Request permission to switch to manual helm control sir.
[13:39] PureNRG Kungfu: what if we put them in the reactor room
[13:39] Karl Roeth: the fluctuations are making the power flow too erratic
[13:39] Elim Exonar: there's a pattern
[13:39] Chase Quinnell: Make it so, Diemme.
[13:39] Orion Pastorelli: doral sensor still seem operational, allocating as backup to nav sensors of the Helm
[13:39] PureNRG Kungfu: the radiation might dampen the effects
[13:39] Diemme Morane grins widely. FINALLY able to drive this bird properly!
[13:40] Diemme Morane engages manual helm
[13:40] Chase Quinnell: Dont run us into anything Diemme.
[13:40] Chase Quinnell grins..
[13:40] Diemme Morane: Much better... manual controls are much more responsive
[13:40] michaels Toshi: no power for DooM
[13:40] Karl Roeth: trying engaging aux power too stabilize
[13:40] Diemme Morane: Never have run us into anything, have I, sir?
[13:40] Diemme Morane: In fact, I dodged a few for us.... LOL
[13:41] Chase Quinnell: Engineering, report.
[13:41] Orion Pastorelli: Ensign Morane, you can use dorsal sensors in case main nav sensors go offline....
[13:41] Karl Roeth: power still erratic sir
[13:41] Elim Exonar: I recommend we isolate the transporter room from the rest of the power grid. This might help stabilize the rest of the ship
[13:41] Diemme Morane nods at Orion
[13:42] Vinnie Lei: If our helm officer can get forward view of the ship, she can bypass the failing control visuals, sir.
[13:42] Karl Roeth: do it cadet
[13:42] Orion Pastorelli: wait dorsal sensors offline... no they are up again....
[13:42] Vinnie Lei: on the main viewer, ofcourse.
[13:42] Chase Quinnell: It appears our lights have failed.
[13:42] Elim Exonar: I think we have to remove the anodyne relays manually
[13:42] Orion Pastorelli pounds the LCARS in frustration....
[13:42] Elim Exonar: or... I can go push a button
[13:43] Karl Roeth: that might be better
[13:43] Vinnie Lei: Can't we just throw it back into space?
[13:43] Diemme Morane keeps the ship steady...
[13:43] Elim Exonar: transporter room isolated Lt Roeth
[13:43] Karl Roeth: very well . thank you Mr Exonar
[13:44] Karl Roeth: power seems to be stabilizing
[13:44] Orion Pastorelli: ok transporter room two is stable for the moment in case of emergency beam out
[13:44] Chase Quinnell: Acknowledged.
[13:45] Chase Quinnell: Hmm.. do those crystals pose any further threat to us?
[13:45] Diemme Morane: Helm is back online
[13:45] PureNRG Kungfu: not sure sir
[13:45] Diemme Morane: disengaging manual controls... reluctantly....
[13:45] Vinnie Lei: So are the shields, but with a slight powerdrain of about 2%.
[13:45] Chase Quinnell: Noted.
[13:45] Orion Pastorelli: it seem as long as we keep them isolate from the main power grid we should be ok...
[13:46] Karl Roeth: Agreed
[13:46] Chase Quinnell: Science, how are our science teams doing?
[13:47] Chase Quinnell: Crewman?
[13:47] PureNRG Kungfu: sir with the kind of tacion radiation those crystals are give off make one hell of a......weapon! sir
[13:48] Orion Pastorelli purses his lips, "so much for benevolent healing properties...."
[13:48] Chase Quinnell: I'm not sure we want them as a weapon... can we analyze their capabilities?
[13:48] PureNRG Kungfu: these have the kind of power to kill phase an entire ship
[13:49] PureNRG Kungfu: aye sir
[13:49] PureNRG Kungfu: it seem the radiation also stimulate organic material to a high rate
[13:50] Chase Quinnell: That's where the healing properties come from.
[13:50] michaels Toshi: any chance we could "filter" it to get only the parts that have healing properties?
[13:50] Karl Roeth: possibly. we're seeing these crystals in their rawest form
[13:51] Karl Roeth: I think we need to get these back to a proper starbase lab
[13:51] PureNRG Kungfu: it seem that it's so fast that if some touching the crystal when fatally injured it might revive them
[13:51] michaels Toshi: how do we do that if they drain our power?
[13:51] Elim Exonar: what if the crystals are acting like batteries and are not the source of the power itself?
[13:51] Elim Exonar: I mean, crystals woudln't drain power and generate it at the same time, would they?
[13:51] Chase Quinnell: You've got a point Elim.
[13:52] Chase Quinnell: Where's their power coming from?
[13:52] Elim Exonar: what if they're acting like Earth Quartz?
[13:52] Elim Exonar: accumulating power
[13:52] Karl Roeth: They might be a raw material for a new type of capacitor
[13:52] PureNRG Kungfu: no sir the crystals were actually healing the ships computers
[13:52] Chase Quinnell: Perhaps that's because they still have stored energy, Crewman.
[13:53] Karl Roeth: if we can figur out how to make them discharge what they absorb and control it.
[13:53] Chase Quinnell: But it's probable that the energy might run out, if the cadet is right.
[13:54] Elim Exonar: what about the planet? would there be anything on it that would explain this type of energy signature?
[13:54] PureNRG Kungfu: because the ship uses a biotic fluid system there could be a chance the with these crystals they could not be permently damaged
[13:54] Orion Pastorelli: Hmm, ok while mr. Kungfu has a point, they could be used a weapons it would be highly dangerous to do so, I am detecting an extremely unstable multi-phasic matrix, upload readings to science stations...
[13:55] PureNRG Kungfu: hmmmmm
[13:55] Vinnie Lei: Captain, the environment is pulling more energy from the defensive shieldgrid. It's like the whole area is slowly taking up energy. We better not stay here too long.
[13:55] Chase Quinnell sighs.
[13:55] Karl Roeth: Agreed sir
[13:55] Chase Quinnell: I get the feeling we're not meant to harness this energy.
[13:55] PureNRG Kungfu: i SEE!
[13:55] Vinnie Lei: Probably not, no.
[13:56] Karl Roeth: Don't give up on this sir
[13:56] Orion Pastorelli: ok there has to be a way to complete isolate the crystals to prevent the power drain...
[13:56] Karl Roeth: I see great potential them
[13:56] PureNRG Kungfu: sir if i am correct then we are in slight danger
[13:56] Chase Quinnell: Indeed, Karl. I'm not giving up yet.
[13:56] Diemme Morane thinks, wouldn't be the firsts time!
[13:56] Chase Quinnell: That's been determined, crewman. *smiles*
[13:57] Karl Roeth: We just need to find the key to controlling the absorption and discharge
[13:57] Chase Quinnell: The key...the key...
[13:58] Karl Roeth: it might be similar to enzymatic action
[13:59] PureNRG Kungfu: sir it seems i was completely wrong
[13:59] Karl Roeth: Didn't we detect a strong tachion source earlier?
[14:00] Chase Quinnell: Aye.
[14:00] Chase Quinnell: That was how we found the crystals.
[14:00] PureNRG Kungfu: it seems that a control quantum flux would shield the crystals
[14:00] michaels Toshi: well, tachyons can overload the core, so give us a good distance....
[14:00] Karl Roeth: Have we determined if the crystals were the source?
[14:00] Chase Quinnell: No, we haven't. What are you getting at, Karl?
[14:01] Diemme Morane moves Redeemer to a safe but still manageable distance.
[14:01] Karl Roeth: I'm still thinking of way to get the crystals to discharge
[14:01] PureNRG Kungfu: it seems very close to the same signature but i can't get a clear reading
[14:01] Karl Roeth: perhaps a tachyon beam
[14:02] Chase Quinnell: Cadet, would you be able to configure that beam properly?
[14:02] Elim Exonar: we have to be careful not to activate the entire planet
[14:02] Karl Roeth: indeed
[14:02] Elim Exonar: I would not recommend we do this experiment here
[14:02] Karl Roeth: indeed
[14:02] Chase Quinnell nods.
[14:02] Chase Quinnell: Make it so!
[14:02] Elim Exonar: I think we should put at least 1/2 million KM between us and the planet
[14:03] Karl Roeth: I concur with Mr Exonar
[14:03] Orion Pastorelli: distance, this a good idea...
[14:03] Diemme Morane moves us away.
[14:03] Chase Quinnell: Helm, pull us away from the planet to the distance specified by the Mr. Exonar.
[14:03] Diemme Morane: Arrived, sir.
[14:03] Elim Exonar: configuring tachyon emitters
[14:03] Vinnie Lei: Sir, the strain on the hull is increasing. Structural integrity at 99%.
[14:04] Elim Exonar: Sir, emitters are ready
[14:04] Karl Roeth: I'll see if we can make some power available for structural integrity
[14:04] Chase Quinnell: Activate the emitter at your convenience.
[14:04] Elim Exonar: Emitters activated!
[14:04] Elim Exonar: ready crystal growth
[14:04] Elim Exonar: reading
[14:05] Elim Exonar: reducing power
[14:05] Orion Pastorelli: mr. Kunfu I think we can adjust sensor resolution to clear up your readings, tyr out theses specs...
[14:05] PureNRG Kungfu: ok aye sir
[14:05] Karl Roeth: well done Cadet
[14:05] Elim Exonar: thank you sir
[14:06] Karl Roeth: the tachyons are causing discharge
[14:06] Chase Quinnell: Good job cadet
[14:06] Chase Quinnell smiles.
[14:07] Karl Roeth: these crystals have enormous potential as capacitors
[14:07] Karl Roeth: the applications are endless
[14:07] Elim Exonar: and looking at the structure, I think they can be replicated in a laboratory
[14:07] PureNRG Kungfu: yes if i can set a flux shield than we can contain them
[14:08] Chase Quinnell: Replicated?
[14:08] Chase Quinnell: As in... by replicators?
[14:08] Elim Exonar: well, I meant grown
[14:08] Karl Roeth: That might be even better...we could purify the structure
[14:08] Chase Quinnell: Ahh...
[14:08] Chase Quinnell: Brilliant work gentlemen.
[14:08] Karl Roeth: thank you sir
[14:09] PureNRG Kungfu: thank you sir
[14:09] Chase Quinnell: Helm..
[14:10] Diemme Morane: Aye sir,
[14:10] Orion Pastorelli: Ensign Morane, I am going to re-allocate the lateral sensors to augment science scan resolution *taps some buttons*
[14:10] PureNRG Kungfu: aye
[14:10] Chase Quinnell: Set course for the nearest starbase.
[14:10] Chase Quinnell: Standby to engage.
[14:10] Diemme Morane: Understood Orion,
[14:10] Diemme Morane: Starbase coordinates set
[14:10] Diemme Morane: Standing by, sir.
[14:10] PureNRG Kungfu: sir i just analyzed some of the readings i got earlier
[14:11] Chase Quinnell: I think Starfleet is going to love it when we break the news.
[14:11] Orion Pastorelli listens to mr Kungfu intently...
[14:11] PureNRG Kungfu: there were animals on that planet giving of similar radiation!
[14:11] Elim Exonar: we should import tribbles... Can you imagine tribbles that heal?
[14:12] Elim Exonar: ok, maybe that's a bad idea
[14:12] Karl Roeth: *shivers*
[14:12] PureNRG Kungfu: it's possible that they live forever
[14:12] Orion Pastorelli is glad there were no klingons in earshot...
[14:12] Chase Quinnell: Erm... I have 2 klingon officers on this ship.
[14:12] Chase Quinnell smirks.
[14:12] Vinnie Lei: Lt. Vinnie to Mr. Kabrok. Please report to the bridge.
[14:12] Chase Quinnell snickers.
[14:13] Chase Quinnell: Good thing he is off duty and he's likely not to respond
[14:13] Chase Quinnell: Attitude issues..
[14:13] Vinnie Lei: Aye.
[14:13] Chase Quinnell: Helm, engage warp 7.
[14:13] Orion Pastorelli: so your saying we have possibly found a fountain of youth?
[14:14] Diemme Morane: Engaging Warp factor 7
[14:14] Orion Pastorelli: the moral and ethical implications are staggering...
[14:14] Chase Quinnell: Fountain of youth? Nah.. being immortal is...over-rated
[14:14] michaels Toshi: i doubt anyone wants to sit next to a crystal for the rest of their life.....
[14:14] PureNRG Kungfu: yes sir
[14:14] PureNRG Kungfu: i think thats about the anlogie
[14:15] Orion Pastorelli: I agree captain, *recalls missions with Lt Reina*
[14:15] Diemme Morane thinks it'll keep the science division on it's toes for a while...
[14:15] Chase Quinnell frowns at the memory.
[14:15] Diemme Morane shudders.... and she wasn't even here...
