We are docked at Tranquility, and after observing and honoring the return of the USS Sheppard, we are now holding position as we await repairs and resupply.
Tactical are finally getting the new weapons they have wanted, and science is getting an updated sensor array. Both will be offline briefly, but it will be needed.
Meanwhile, I am taking a little time for myself, and working on a new holodeck program, complete with an old earth automobile to get operational.

Personal Log - Fred McCellan
Our shift started normally enough. We are currently docked at Pinastri to re-supply and to work on various ship repairs. All the departments had previously submitted a list items they needed. The lists included medical supplies, maintenance kits, spare parts, replicator and food supplies, torpedoes, some personal items, etc.
One of our torpedo tubes and a phaser array were both recently damaged rather badly and need some serious repair/replacement work. Various sensors systems are also on the schedule for repair and/or replacement.
Major Kyle Asbrink asked me to send a message to his marines to terminate their training exercise and prepare to beam back to the ship. If they didn't respond I was to keep trying every 15 minutes or so.
Commander Aryela Dagger and Commander Scottybrit Resident were busy in other parts of the ship running various operations when the Captain unexpectedly placed me in charge of the bridge. The Captain had decided to take advantage of our downtime. Later I found out he had gone to the holodeck, presumably for some much needed R&R time.
Shortly after the captain left the bridge, Captain Nora Gerhadsen, her XO April Coswell, Lt Sandie Blackburn, and Lt-Jg Jayce Rebel from the USS Maxwell arrived to visit and observe. Later they assisted quite meaningfully in our investigations.
Things were a bit hectic with things happening all over the ship. Repairs, maintenance, testing, and calibrations were all being done at all levels from individual components up to systems. Crates, parts, and supplies were constantly arriving, being cataloged, stored, or moved to where they were needed. Most of the items arriving were being beamed directly into our cargo or shuttle bays.
Everything was going smoothly when Captain Randt's comm badge suddenly alerted security to go to holodeck three. The sound of a phaser was heard and then the combadge went dead. I tried to contact the Captain but there was no response. Security officer Kristoff Jameson immediately issued a security alert and dispatched a team to the holodeck to see what was going on. I asked him for status as soon as he found out something.
When Lt-Cmdr Kristoff Jameson personally arrived on the holodeck he (and Captain Gerhadsen who arrived shortly after) entered and found Captain Randt down and seriously injured. There was also an old classic car in the holodeck, presumably part of a program that Captain Randt was running. As soon as I heard the Captain was down, I had security put the whole ship on lock-down. I also notified the chief transporter officer to be ready for an emergency transport from the holodeck to sickbay. I also sent a communique Pinastri/Tranquility to stop all deliveries and the beaming of parts to the Veracruz.
When they saw Captain Randt was down, both Lt-Cmdr Jameson and Captain Gerhadsen immediately summoned medical to the holodeck while they checked the captain's vital signs. Doc McKay arrived within a few minutes and stabilized the Captain, and then had him beamed to sick bay for emergency surgery. The Captain's injuries were apparently due to a phaser. He had lung & heart damage and his spleen was perforated. He required life support equipment during the surgery.
When it was confirmed that Captain Randt had been deliberately attacked, Captain Gerhadsen ordered an investigative team to the holodeck. Just a few minutes later Gerhadsen discovered the holodeck safeties had been turned off. When Cmdr Jameson heard this he ordered Lt- Macpherson (who was with him) to the bridge and raised an intruder alert. He also took the ship lock-down to General Quarters 5.
At this point Commander Aryela (our XO) returned to the bridge and took command while I filled her in on what had happened and what we knew so far. I then returned to my comm/ops console. As expected, a full scale investigation ensued while Doc Rodney McKay worked feverishly to save and heal Captain Randt.
It was soon realized that the attack on our captain had occurred just minutes after our sensor system had been set off-line during our sensor repairs. That was unlikely to have been a coincidence and it began to look like the attack was an "inside" job. Fortunately our sensor repairs were now completed and were being brought back on-line. At least we would not be blind during remainder of the investigation.
To support the investigation and security efforts Lt-Cmdr Hanfoi was sent to engineering and Lt Macpherson was sent to sickbay where he ended up guarding Captain Randt.
Meanwhile April Coswell, Captain Gerhadsen, and Lt-Cmdr Jameson were working on finding out how the holodeck safeties had been bypassed or turned off. They were also examining transporter and holodeck log files for any unauthorized access, erased logs, command codes used, etc. They established that whoever had orchestrated the attack was quite skilled in masking their identity. Lt-Cmdr Jameson commented that they also knew security standard operating procedures.
Lt-Cmdr LeighAnn Mantis and myself were dispatched to the holodeck to see what information we could find. Upon arrival in the holodeck I opened the holodeck control panels. I then inspected them visually and with my tricorder for evidence of tampering. Nothing unusual was found. The holodeck logs just showed the usual traces of authorized staff access from crew members of the USS Veracruz and USS Maxwell. The logs for the holodeck door showed no unusual activity as well. Scans of the Jefferies tube hatch in the holodeck showed that it had not been used recently. All in all, there was no sign of an intruder. I next scanned the whole holodeck looking for anything unusual such as unauthorized holo-emitters. Again nothing out of the ordinary was found. Meanwhile, Lt-Cmdr Mantis was also inspecting various aspects of the holodeck, concentrating on the program that was running (an old style red roadster car). She also found residue in the car that looked like it came from a Federation phaser. That was likely part of the blast that had hit our captain. She also found Captain Randt's fingerprints all over the car. When we thought it was safe, Lt-Cmdr Mantis and I sat in the roadster and found nothing unusual inside it. We also looked for evidence of erased logs and came up empty. After completing our investigation, Lt-Cmdr Mantis and I left the holodeck and returned to our positions on the bridge and reported our findings.
On our way out of the holodeck we noted Major Asbrink had opened an EPS conduit access panel just outside the holodeck and was inspecting it. A short time later he found that someone had sabotaged one of the conduits that fed into the holodeck and its backup safeties.
While all these investigations were going on April Coswell detected some kind of subspace distortion about 5 km off our port side. Captain Gerhadsen suggested directing a tachyon beam to the location but when it was tried it revealed no useful information. Whatever it was, the distortion measured to be about 15 to 20 meters by 10 meters (roughly the size of a shuttle). Eventually they also found a fake residual warp trail near the distortion. This fake trail could have been created by real shuttle. Apparently all this was intended to divert our investigation. As Lt-Cmdr Lei Hanoi stated (and the best our team could tell), this meant the "intruder" might actually still be on board the Veracruz.
About this time the Captain regained consciousness and Lt-Cmdr Jameson was there asking questions about the attack. Apparently the captain saw a human male beam into the holodeck and pull a phaser. The captain, possessing only a lug wrench, took cover behind the car but got hit and ended up with the major injuries mentioned previously. Visual records from the holodeck confirmed his story.
The investigation took a bit of a turn when Lt Guardian suggested that perhaps the attacker in the holodeck was in fact not a real person but might actually have been part of the holodeck program. That would explain the lack of evidence for a real person for the actual attack. Other aspects of the incident, such as the sabotage and fake warp trail would, of course, have required a real person but those elements could have been executed ahead of time.
One big unknown is how the person(s) involved in setting up the attack obtained the information they needed to execute it. So far it looked like an inside job done by a crew member or by a member of Starfleet. As a minimum it looks like they knew our schedule for the downtime of our sensors, had access to some command codes, had access to the Veracruz, apparently had used a shuttle, had access to the holodeck, and apparently knew that the captain was in the holodeck.
The investigation continues.
