Prelude

Commanding Officer Poison Toocool - Log, Stardate 130111:

While investigating a war bird on the planet ShoValla, Captain Toocool was kidnapped. In the battle that followed, we killed the Pirate Queen Zhiella Bruxxls and captured her ship, the "Maj", however the Argonaut was badly damaged. We have left her behind on ShoValla with the bulk of the Huitzilopochtli crew, for repair. Logs on the "Maj" indicate Captain Toocool was beamed off the Bird of Prey prior to the battle, we are now following the trail. The Huit's Second Officer, Commander Konora Meth, has been seconded to us for this Mission. The data we have on the pirates show they are from a variety of species, but their ships, weapons and equipment seems to be overwhelmingly Klingon, albeit out of date. We managed to destroy the spacestation they were using for a base near the ShoVallan system, but not before confirming the Captain had been there and was being taken to the slave market on Treman with other prisoners. We made our course for Treman at best speed the old warbird could manage. Through the use of a hidden wormhole, we were able to get back to the Astraios Sector and reconnect with the USS Argonaut, which had been searching for us for days. With their help, we rescued the Captain and have now returned to SS Astraios.

Today is two years to the day since I landed on Astraios Prime and first saw the flora and fauna I have learned to love. It has been a long stretch. When I was in Academy, I took an extra year just to allow myself time to become accustomed to having people around me all the time. It felt strange to me, who had always been alone, and even sometimes claustrophobic, to be surrounded by sentient beings of all species and genders. Coming here also gave me time to grow to like it... so much so that this is my family now.

I have been allowed to return to my quarters at last, I am sure the doctors have done all they can, and I only need rest and sunshine to feel myself again. I have made a thorough report to Intelligence on all I have learned, Cmdr Foulsbane and LT Sands will have their hands full analyzing all the data collected by the Maj, the Argonaut, and other ships in our task force.

We are all now looking forward to the weekend, and our anniversary celebrations. I am told several officers are on their way from Pinastri, foregoing use of the stargate and travelling by ship instead. I need to write a speech for the Ceremony on Sunday morning, and check that my Dress Uniform is ready.

All seems well but as I read recent reports from Tactical and Science I see that the Astraios sun is having another episode of solar storm activity, and this is affecting our systems. Our long range sensors are down, communications are off and on. Engineering is working on the problem.

Events

Reporting: Commander Genny7 Markus - Executive Officer, Stardate 130113

We had just arrived in the garden of SS Astraios after our awards ceremony and began to dance when the Captain stopped and put her head to one side, a message was coming through that could not be good news. We heard her advise OPS to inform Astraios Civilian Authority to increase strength to the planetary shielding and to avoid the use of aircraft. Turning to Doctor Lane she said "might be a need for radiation protocols". The Captain then makes an announcement to the Civilian radio giving the same message about planetary shielding and aircraft. Mr Lazuli Pooraka took his leave of us to check on civilian safety issues.

OPS then said "Captain we need you in OPS" it seemed as if they had caught a glimpse of three Klingon ships heading our way. The Captain gave the order for us all to be beamed to OPS and on arrival she ordered Red Alert and then Battle Stations. We all immediately went to our stations and both tactial and science began scans of the area. It seemed that there was a Solar Storm heading our way but science feared that it had been generated by the Klingons so that they could attack us. We all knew who they were and where they were from, the Klingon pirates from Treman.

The Captain ordered me to see to getting all civilians away from the space station and safely home to Astraios Prime. As the last shuttle left with 80 civilians aboard they were hit by fire and we had tp tractor them back on board the station and in to sickbay as the most shielded area of the station. Captain Toocool ordered the Mak'la to leave the station and try to get a message out through the storm. But shortly after that the Mak'la was damaged by enemy fire. Tactial was doing a brilliant job with photon torpedoes and phasers but still we took hit after hit and had a hull breach on deck 15. Luckily for us the Mak'la had managed to get a message out to the USS Argonaut, still at Treman, to use warp 9 in an effort to come to our aid.

Supplemental

"Reporting: Captain Poison Toocool - CO, Stardate: 130113"

We'd only been home a few days. It was the Second Anniversary of our arrival here, at Astraios Prime, so despite our long absence we pulled out the stops for a grand party and ceremony. Most of our guests were local to the Sector, but a few made the trip out from Pinastri through what seems to be hostile space these days. As a surprise to me, Commander Kermie Mistwallow, Starfleet Chief of Operations, arrived through the stargate, only staying a short time as his duties back home were pressing. It was exciting to see him and have a few words, but I regret to say the use of the stargate worried me. We have long known that the type of energy the gate emits can be seen by those who have the right technology. That's why we've limited its use even when we could sorely use supplies or manpower from the Delta Quadrant.

In any case, we had finished the official ceremony and just beamed down to the Garden Party, where we were welcoming our guests, when SS Astraios OPs contacted me to say the solar storm reported earlier was growing stronger, it was affecting our systems, and it was recommended that action be taken to protect civilians on the planet. I instantly informed the head of the Civilian Authority, Mr Pookara, and he left the party to ensure the planet shield was engaged at maximum and to ground all aircraft, as well as prepare evacuation plans in the event they were necessary. We attempted to reassure those who were left, but OPs contacted me again to advise that a massive flare had caused a distruption in long range sensors, but also revealed ships heading this way. Klingon ships, whose cloaks had failed due to the electromagnetic interference. I immediately called red alert. As the pirates operating in and out of this sector use Klingon technology, it could only be them.

Senior officers beamed directly to OPs, USS Mak'ala was dispatched to assess the thread and engage if necessary. Urgent messages were also sent to the fleet, but no response. We hardly had time to evacuate civilians from the station before the pirates attacked. One shuttle had difficulty entering planet atmosphere, we managed to tractor it back. Our shields held in spite of the electromagnetic interferance, and our weapons were online. We were able to put up a fight, and damage one of the pirate vessels.

USS Mak'ala was fired upon and entered the fray, drawing attention away from us and doing some masterful maneuvering before taking damage. I ordered them to retreat, and contact the Argonaut at Treman, advising them to head here at warp 9 as the station and planet were under attack. Dr Highwater, one of our guests, is on the bridge administering radiation innoculations whilst our own Dr Lane assists at OPs, as life support is crucial at this moment. Dr Lane sustained an injury when his console sparked. Triage has been set up in Cargo bay 2. A torpedo breached area B11 of deck 15, forcefields are holding.
