The crew of the Sheppard copes with the newly self-aware computer's antics and manages to explore a prewarp planet in the Midgar Sector.
Location: Midgar Sector, Parsec A2
Captain's log, Stardate 100924
After multiple discussions with our new AI computer, I have managed to elude that there is not need for it to remain in the vicinity of the device. Its programming states it should go dormant, however it also has an intelligence that can overide this directive, and has decided that its best course of action would be to work with us to keep its "prisoner" in the form of this agressive intelligence contained. This does warrant further investigation - however at this time, I've decided it is best to work with our new computer and continue with our mission. As a result, we are enroute to the Midgar system, which is currently taking us through parsec A3.
(The captain pauses). It seems our friend enjoys high warp - helm is having to continiously change the warp speed, to keep us steady.
On a better note, we seem to be having less issues with the computer, less questions, at least today. I think that the deal of allowing use of one of the holodecks for extended periods of time each day has given the AI a bit of an outlet. It will mean less holodeck time for the crew, but i think they will all agree its worth not being asked so many questions If the AI's direct attention is elsewhere then the routine work of the computer tends to work as normal.
Well...almost normal. The computer is still more conversational in its responses but compliant with requests.
(The captain shakes her head) Back to the matter at hand. There doesn't seem to be much more than space dust in parsec A3, so the Sheppard is pushing onto Parsec A4 to explore the Midgar system.
Computer, end log.
After some discussion with the AI, Science Chief Kaelin Odriscoll was able to get a basic scan of the Midgar System, and ascertained that there was a prewarp civilization on Midgar II. Two away teams were formed and - after some discussion with the AI which seemed reluctant to deliver them properly to the transporter room via turbolift - managed to go down to the surface dressed in early 21st-century Earth garb to explore.
On Midgar II, they found a public transportation system similar to an old Earth train station, where a group of natives, apparently awaiting transportation, discussed among themselves and voiced concern about the "Rebels" sabotaging their transportation system.
The away teams also found a medical facility, where Lt. Odriscoll lost his tricorder - it was later found to be locked in one of the sealed areas of the facility, but the Sheppard's transporter chief was able to transport it out.
Operations Ensign Teresa Firelight produced a cultural report on the civilization encountered on Midgar II.
