The brand-new USS Sheppard joins the 4th fleet in defending against a flotilla of enemy vessels using a powerful weapon.
Captain's log, Stardate 100312
The USS Sheppard has joined the 4th fleet in picket duty to intercept any incoming ships from the flotilla. The fourth fleet has been placed on the coreward side of the system, the flotilla of ships is incoming from the opposite side of the system to our picket duty, so essentially unless they decide to surround the entire system the fourth fleet is acting as a reinforcements for the main line. We have pushed ourselves to get out of dock early and the ship is fully operational bar a few secondary systems, so in some ways I'm glad that our placement puts us away from the main lines as the ship hasn't been tested yet and a system bug could prove a fatal flaw in a hostile situation.
The crew, well all I can say is, new and nervous, but I know they will handle whatever is thrown at us. We will hold and protect our home, protect our people.
The ship is ready, the crew is ready and now all we have to do is wait..

Captain's log, Stardate 100313
After the second fleet took heavy damage, the Sheppard and the remaining operational fourth fleet ships are providing assistance while the 3rd fleet keeps our friends at bay.
We have had to take on additional crew from other ships and a lot of them are injured, so things are getting a bit crowded and hectic. But we will pull through - the crew is doing a darn fine job.
Computer, end log.
While the 4th fleet held back as a reserve, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd fleets engaged the flotilla and quickly discovered that the enemy vessels had unusual gallicite torpedoes which were able to severely damage Starfleet ships. With the 4th fleet joining the action, the Sheppard crew discovered that a dekyon beam could prove an efficient countermeasure to neutralize the gallicite torpedoes.
However, as it was recovering from the first battle with the flotilla, the Sheppard was attacked by three enemy light cruisers as it answered a distress call from an enemy escape pod. Although the crew was successful in destroying one of the vessels and disabling the two others, the Sheppard was boarded by an enemy assault team, which took over engineering and attempted, from there, to take over the entire ship. The decision was made to eject the warp core to deny the intruders control of it. A team managed to storm engineering and, while taking heavy casualties, it did neutralize the invaders. In the end, even though the warp core interlock systems were damaged, the crew was successful in retrieving the core using transporters and emergency power to the impulse engines.
