Fresh out of spacedock and heading to the Midgar sector, the Sheppard suddenly experiences massive systems malfunctions and the crew comes under the influence of... laughing gas.

Prelude

Executive Officer's log, Stardate 100403.

The USS Sheppard has successfully left dock and is currently cruising at warp 8 towards the Midgar sector.

The shift on the bridge has been relatively quiet. Though there has been a few minor issues with some of the Sheppard's system, they have only been minor and have been easily resolved.

Events

A few minutes after getting under way for the Midgar sector, the Sheppard started experiencing minor malfunctions that gradually grew more serious. Second officer Otheno Floresby, in command on the bridge, ordered full stop - but quickly there were reports of crew members stuck in turbolifts, the helm was found to be nonresponsive and sections of the ship started to get sealed off one by one - seemingly by themselves.

A strange change in behaviour in the Engineering crew - including giggles - led the bridge crew to discover that the ship's environmental controls were pumping a gas similar to Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) into some parts of the ship. Donning hazard suits, Science managed to vent the gas and the affected crew were given inoculations. Meanwhile, as the bridge crew worked to restore helm control, Ensign Cordova Marabana found and removed an odd device from one of the computer panels - and in an instant the ship's systems started to come back online. It seems that the device was some sort of modified Borg technology that was slowly integrating itself into the ship's computers.
