En route to help a Retchan colony infected with the mutagenic virus, the Sheppard comes under fire from the Uretchans, who have a more drastic solution to the pandemic.

Prelude

Captain's log, Stardate 110507

The Sheppard is currently escorting a medical convoy enroute to a Retchan colony world where the mutagenic virus we encountered seems to have spread to the general population. There have been several reports of other worlds in clan space or "Nuecha", as I've found they call themselves, collectively having outbreaks. As a result the diplomatic talks have been put on hold until we can combat this developing crisis. Not that the talks where moving forward anyway, with the Uretchans storming out and leaving when it was revealed that the virus orginated from their region of space. A lot of the clans felt they should have sent warning of this ongoing pandemic and quite frankly, I cant believe they didn't.

In any case Captain Meril and the Luranza are escorting another colony assisting the Livnecha and Meklecha clans while the Sheppard helps the immediate area and Retchan space. The convoy we are escorting will be going to two colonies and one outpost; we should be making the first colony in the next 24 hours, then the outpost a few days after that and the second colony three days after that.

Computer, end log.

Events

As the Sheppard and the medical convoy reached the Retchan colony and prepared to deploy the antidote for the mutagenic virus, seven Uretchan vessels appeared and began an attack run. It seems that the Uretcha's solution to the virus was to kill all those infected.

Since the Uretchan vessels weren't responding to hails, the Sheppard disabled some of them, causing them to retreat. However, one of them was broadcasting a distress signal - some of its crew had been infected and the captain was begging for help for his son, who was aboard that vessel.

An away team was sent over and despite being attacked by those Uretchan crew who were in the advanced stages of infection, was able to rescue three crewmembers who were beamed back to Sheppard for treatment.
