The Sheppard crew hosts a formal reception for the Alliance, a group of species which is deeply distrustful of humans and the Federation.
Captain's log, Stardate 110122.
This week has proved to be one full of surprises, firstly with the attack of the mercenaries and the arrival of the Alliance ships to help us. Though I'm sure we could've dealt with the mercenaries in the end, they certainly helped and I must say with brute force, for a species that uses fusion power they certainly pack a punch.
The commander of this force, a Commander Barkin, I found to be arrogant and had a very low opinion of the Federation. In fact, from my conversations with him, it seems he considers the Federation to be the arrogant ones. In some respects I can't help but feel that he's right - and yet he also seems to have an almost irrational fear of some technologies we take for granted in the Federation, such as our matter/antimatter drives and transporter systems. Considering them both a threat, as well as the Federation itself, doesn't exactly show in my opinion a balanced view of the situation but does highlight how some of the technologies we consider the norm can be seen by species without them.
In any case, the commander informed me that his orders were to not attack any Starfleet vessels, so we have remained in this system waiting for his superiors to arrive so that I can meet with them and get to the bottom of why the Alliance is here and what to do about it.
Interestingly, a few days ago another Alliance representative - a Lady Rade - arrived on a warship which, the commander informed me. had the firepower to level planets. I found Lady Rade to be a lot more open and more of a diplomat than the commander. I also got more information from her - apparently this situation dates back to Voyager's travels through the area and a species of the Alliance called the Kindred. Lady Rade told me that Voyager unsettled maby diplomatic situations and that these Kindred want war with us due to our apparent physical similarities to Daemons from their religious history. As a result of these overtures, the Alliance has sent this task force to talk with the Federation and from what I can tell, come to a peaceful resolution of some kind.
The Alliance ambasador will be arriving today and we can begin formal discussions on the issues surrounding the Alliance and its problems with the Federation. In the meantime, I have offered Lady Rade quarters onboard the Sheppard and she accepted. This will hopefully allow me to gain some measure of trust with one of their representatives and its not likely those ships will fire on us with one of their senior members onboard.

Re: Deployment Orders
Commander, in relation to your orders to investigate the sighting of ships similar to a vessel that was caught spying on Pinastri, I can confirm that we have not only found these vessels but opened up diplomatic relations with a new species.
It seems these vessels were that of a group of species calling themselves the Alliance and were sent to open up communications and prevent a pre-emptive strike against the Federation by one of their members. It seems that this Alliance member, known as the Kindred, considers humans to be a threat due to our likeness to Daemons that enslaved their people in the past. I can say that the Sheppard has managed to open up political channels with these people and managed to make some moves to put their fears at rest.
I have negotiated further contact with this species through the Alliance at a time and place of their choosing. This is pending the formal approval from their ruling council; however I am fairly certain that Starfleet will get permission for further contact.
As of today, the Alliance ships have begun their withdrawal from Federation space. The Sheppard will continue monitoring the Alliance vessels for two days; if there is no change in their course we will continue with our mission.
Captain Dwi out.
