Captain's Log Poison Toocool - USS Argonaut. Location: outskirts of the Tiberius Nebula. Stardate 130406:

Inclement weather has kept us from returning an Away Team to the surface of the Class P planet in order to search a cave on the outskirts of the encampment. In the rush to leave the area Dr Lane was not able to fully examine the corpse found by a small lake but he has noted the humanoid died violently although he could not determine what caused that event. No weapons signatues were found. In the meantime engineering has been working on replacing some damaged EPS conduits. Medical reports radiation treatment has been successful on those afflicted however several crew are ill from a new strain of influenza. There are many questions to be answered as to what happened here. Still, it seems as though we are all anxious to follow the warp trail and the ship that made it. As soon as the weather clears a small team will shuttle down and do the search as quickly as possible so we may get on our way.

I sense we are all a bit restless. We are far from home. I hope our curiosity does not lead us astray.

The blizzard having subsided on the Class P Glaciated planet, the Captain gave permission for an Away Team to return to check out the cave that had been discovered on our previous visit.

Having selected the Away Team, I led them to the shuttle and we returned to planets' surface. We landed near to the cave, where we also found the second dead humanoid. There was an large pool of blood by the side of the body - too much in my opinion to have come from just one corpse. Dr. Lane carried out an examination of the body and suggested that the anatomy of the deceased and the very low temperature may be an explanation for the quantity of blood we were seeing.

We then headed off to the cave, where we were immediately confronted with a number of bat-like creatures flying around. We later triggered a holographic image of a sleeping bat, but were not sure of its significance. We then found what appeared to be a frozen Yeti type creature standing tall against one of the walls. We wondered if this creature had been involved in the deaths of the two humanoids we had found.

Alongside the frozen creature, were several large piles of gem-like stones of various colours, which we took samples of to analyse back on the ship. On our way back to the shuttle we came across a machine that seemed to have been used to process the gem-like stones in some way.

As we neared the shuttle we passed some statues. As we approached closer to the statues we could hear singing coming from them - obviously a recording of some kind. I quickly took a recording of the singing in order that we might get additional information to help us translate the signal that had brought us to this icy planet.

Having reached our shuttle, we returned back to the USS Argonaut to report our findings to the Captain.

We returned to the surface of the planet after the storm passed the area of our investigation. We discovered another corpse in an open field. There was a singular wound on the body but there was no blood pool around the body. There was, however, a 10 meter diameter area of the ground covered in blood. I concluded that the blood on the ground did not entirely come from the corpse.

Our primary objective was to investigate a mining cavern located near the village. Inside the cavern, we found different life forms. There are also crystalline material towards the rear of the cavern. Commander Barbosa tried to retrieve a sample of the crystalline material using her phaser. The crystal seemed to absorbed the energy. We also investigated the village which seemed to be more like a mining outpost. A machine was located in one of the structures. Its purpose is unknown but there are more of the crystals located near the machine. The other structures looked as if the miners left very quickly.

Commander Barbosa wanted to investigate the standing stones on top of the hill near the shuttle we discovered. We noticed sound waves emanating from the stones. While the other members of the Away Team recorded the sound waves for analysis, I requested sickbay to beam down an autopsy kit. Given this may be a new species and the unknown nature of their deaths, I decided it would be best to do a field necropsy instead of taking the bodies back to the ship.
