Commanding Officer Poison Toocool - Log, Stardate 120413: We have successfully landed on the unknown Class L planetoid. Dr Markus has been kidnapped by an alien entity and is somewhere on the planet surface. Engineering teams are working to complete emergency repairs and estimate at least 6 hours until systems restored. I want to send out away teams to rescue the doctor but have no information on the powers of this alien, who seems to be able to move through shields and transport life forms anywhere it likes. And shuttle sensors inform us that a large storm is headed our way.
Cptn Poison Toocool = Captain
LTcmdr Dolfke Barbosa = Security Chief
LT David7 Bravin = Science Chief
Cadet Fire Spingflower = Medical Assistant
LT Genny7 Markus = Medical Chief / Prisoner
LT Alia Soulstar = Alien Entity
Reporting: Commanding Officer USS Mak'ala (Cptn Poison Toocool):
The process of landing on this Class L planetoid was difficult, but in the end we gently touched down on the surface. Our concerns were twofold: repair minimal systems, and rescue Dr Genny Markus from the clutches of the Alien Entity. I held a quick briefing with my senior officers and we planned our strategy: our Marines would be deployed on the ground around the ship. Mak'ala has no external sensors and minimal shields, and it is impossible to target what weapons we do have without our long range scanners. Science would be manning the shuttle sensors and make reports every 15 minutes in case anyone attempts to approach us; we also need to know more about this binary system, and how we got here, but our focus must be on repairs and rescue at present.
Engineering required at least 6 hours to repair minimal systems, preferably a few days for the rest. While teams of technicians began their work, LTcmdr Barbosa and I planned our rescue attempt.
Medical advised that, although the atmosphere was breathable, the consistency of the air might cause some difficulty and therefore respirators were recommended. After suiting up, blue team and green team were deployed left and right, with technology that would either capture or stun the Alien. Chief Science Officer LT David7 Bravin, LTcmdr Barbosa, myself, and a Medical Technician (Cadet Fire Spingflower) and several members of security made up the centre team.
My tricorder clearly showed life signs... but the signal kept morphing, as though the Doctor was moving or being moved. As we attempted to approach the area, we had great difficulty with the terrain - almost as though there was a force field pushing against us. I even began to wonder if I was hallucinating, as I clearly saw Cadet Spingflower pass into the ground, and I myself walked into a hill and saw only green grass whereever I looked for some moments. We perservered and eventually found ourselves at the foot of a winding stair. The life signs we were seeking seemed to be above us, and we began to climb. Again we had difficulty, but in the end our team arrived at the top of the stair and split up to search the ship-like buildings we observed there.
LT Bravin contacted me shortly to let me know he and LTcmdr Barbosa had located Dr Markus in a structure to the left of my position, the rest of us quickly moved there. I heard LTcmdr Barbosa cry out, perhaps she had hit another force field or was under attack from the Alien Entity, so I began to run. Inside the circular structure, we found Dr Markus inside some sort of chamber. She didn't answer us when we called to her. The Alien Entity was also there and soon I found myself trying to negotiate with it for the release of our officer. It refused to listen, repeating that its mandate is to collect specimens of living species. I tried to determine the purpose behind this "library" of specimens but the creature didn't seem to know why it needed to collect, only that it must collect. Science offered a microchip containing data about 'all the species in the galaxy' in exchange for the Doctor but the Alien declined our offer. As we spoke, it indicated that Dr Markus was undergoing some sort of procedure to prepare her for the 'library', I grew concerned. It was clear I was not going to be able to negotiate for the Doctor's release. I ordered Security to attack the creature.
During the attack, I was thrown to the ground and briefly lost consciousness. I awoke to pain in my left shoulder and calls from my teams. They had captured the Alien and were trying to release Dr Markus from the chamber. Cadet Spingflower attended to me in the field, and was also called to care for a Private Song who had been badly injuried during the attack. Finally we were able to release the Doctor. We had some trouble beaming out of the area, likely due to the energy eddies of our own attack and perhaps also the force fields we had encountered. We placed transponders at four corners and were able to beam directly to the ship. Security teams remained behind to dismantle the force fields and recon the area before returning to Maka'ala.
I was beamed directly to sick bay with the Doctor, LT Bravin and LTcmdr Barbosa. Cadet Spingflower was already there with Private Song. Dr Markus was reported to be physically alright, but she did not seem to recognize us, or know her own name. She remains in treatment.
My left shoulder is a bit stiff, but no other issues. Now we play a waiting game... while engineering works round the clock to get us into space again. Cadet Spingflower did a fine job of triage whilst on the away team, she has the makings of a fine medical officer.
