The Sheppard arrives in the Excalibur system in time to join UF Starfleet's last stand against the Nabraithians - a battle that results in the destruction of the ship and the loss of her crew.

Prelude

Captain's log, Stardate 110402.

-- Captain Dwi appears on screen, a haunted look across her face --

The doctors have finally released me from sickbay, with the proviso that I wear a cortical monitor of course, but really I can see the fear in their actions. This ship needs its captain on the bridge where she can do the most good, and despite my confusion of the last few days my mind is clear now. I know there is somthing terrible going on and I know I need to do something to stop it.

I just can't shake the feeling that running off to help the fleet in the Excalibur system is not it, it feels like I can almost grasp the meaning of what is happening and then it slips away from me like an object just out of reach. I... I and the Sheppard however are going to do our duty. We have slipped away from the scouting forces that were looking for us and are nearing the Excalibur system and we are most definitely not late this time.

We have detected over a hundred vessels in the Excalibur system. From our initial assessments Starfleet vessels are outnumbered at least three to one; communications are erratic but from what we have picked up and our sensor observations, they are making use of dekyon beams and mines to disable the gallicite torpedoes of the Urechta and so evening up the odds a bit.

However, a Dekyon beam has no effect on the Nabraithian vessels as they use subspace weapons, and these are being used to deadly effect only hampered by the need to use the weapons at range and the lower numbers of Nabraithian vessels. This has meant Admiral Calhoun has been able to use our own superior maneuverability to get in close and negate the safe use of subspace weaponry. This, however, is only a delaying tactic and the Nabraithians have little consideration for the lives of their allies - meaning for every Nabraithian vessel they take several Starfleet are destroyed.

Computer, end log.

Events

Nearing the Excalibur, the Sheppard picked up several Starfleet, Urechta and Nabraithian vessels. Scans showed Starfleet vessels to be outnumbered, which was soon confirmed by a dishevelled-looking Admiral Mike Calhoun, who enlisted Sheppard's help in a counter-attack against the Nabraithians. Before that, however, the Sheppard had to contend with a Urechta attack run on her wing. With the help of the USS Pollux and the USS Eclipse, the Sheppard was able to disable and destroy most of them, although it sustained damage and the USS Pollux, dead in the water, had to launch lifeboats. A Y-pattern attack by the two surviving Urechta vessels inflicted more serious damage to Sheppard - including warp core damage and near-complete loss of helm control - as well as some casualties. But with some deception and two lucky dekyon shots, the crew were able to disable the two vessels.

With the Eclipse, the damaged Sheppard met up with Admiral Calhoun's ship, the Goddard, as well as the Aegis. The plan was to make a run at the Nabraithian mothership, but the Nabraithians flooded the area around themselves with radiation, while a cluster of Urechta ships suddenly arrived at warp. Sheppard once again took heavy fire, injuring several bridge crew - while Chief of Operations April Coswell, for some reason, seemingly lost her mind and stood staring vacantly at the viewscreen. With helmsman Rich Lombardia down for the count, Captain Dwi herself took the helm. News soon came that Admiral Calhoun was dead.

Running out of options as the Sheppard's systems failed one after the other, the Captain programmed in a ramming course, ordering all crew to abandon ship. Most of the bridge crew stayed, however, and died at their posts when the Sheppard crashed into the the Nabraithian ship, detonating its subspace weapons and destroying all vessels in the vicinity.
