Captain's Log - Stardate 090805
"We are currently approximately three weeks from entering Devore Space. For the last few days things have been quiet. Unfortunately, that has not held.
Our long range sensors have detected a Devore spacecraft heading towards us at high warp. We have tried repeatedly to contact the Devore, and continue to, but to no avail. They are on a direct intercept course with us.
As a result, we have moved to Yellow Alert and are running with shields up and weapons on standby."
The Ship remained several weeks away from Devore space. Still, the Devore cruiser continued it's intercept course. Ensign Ogleby persisted in her attempts to establish communications, but with little sucess. Finally, on the edge of weapons range, the the cruiser sent out a hail. It instructed the Shogun to lower her shields and surrender themselves.
The instruction was ignored and the Captain ordered red alert. Scans of the incoming vessel showed it to be more advanced in weapons and engines than a standard Devore ship.
The cruiser opened fire on the edge of weapons range, narrowly missing the Shogun. Lieutenant Seriman began evasive maneuvers and Lieutenant Teichmann returned fire, also missing. As the two ships got closer to each other more weapons fire from both sides began to find their targets, although Seriman's maneuvering kept the Shogun from the worst of enemy fire. The battle ended abruptly when Lieutenant Teichmann scored a successful hit near the enemy's power generator, causing them to turn suddenly and retreat in the direction they had come from.
The Devore ship appeared to be heading in the direction of a nearby star system, so the Captain ordered a pursuit course. As they got closer scans showed an m-class planet in the system. Nearly as soon as the Devore cruiser entered orbit of the planet it's warp core appeared to overload and it was destroyed.
The Shogun arrived just minutes later, finding the debris field. Scanning the planet, it appeared as though an Devore outpost of some sort was present on the surface. Initial scans could not find life signs or power signatures coming from the area. The Captain sent an away team, under the command of Lieutenant Lir-02x, to investigate.
The away team beamed down. They reported that the architecture of the building did indeed look like it was of Devore construction. However, communication from the team ended abruptly after this. Scans showed a dampening field in effect around the area, preventing both communications and transport. Lieutenant Brouwer began searching for a way to penetrate the field and the Captain prepared for the possibility of having to lead an assault on the planet.
