The crew of the Sheppard spring a trap set for the pirates, but in return get a lot more than they bargained for - including stolen Starfleet equipment and a mysterious injury to Captain Dwi.

Prelude

Distance from Pinastri: 8.06 Lyrs

After repairing the merchant ship as much as possible, we have set them on their way with the detachment of SFC onboard. The Sheppard is a short distance away hiding in the atmosphere of the planet we have been orbiting for the last week. The plan is for the pirates to come on the damaged merchant vessel; believing its alone, they will undoubtedly take this opportunity to finish the job. The sfc will then drop from the merchant vessel and provide a surprise attack, after which the Sheppard will drop behind the pirate vessels and move to disable them.

Now it's just time to sit and wait.

Events

When the Ferengi merchant vessel planted as bait dropped its shields, pirate vessels did appear and converge on it. However, it quickly became clear that the merchant ship's cargo hold doors were jammed, making a SFC sortie impossible and transforming the bait into a target. Sheppard was forced to warp to the rescue and succeeded in destroying two pirate vessels and disabling a third; 13 survivors were beamed directly into the brig.

Captain Dwi and Executive Officer Blaisdale formed an away team and transported over to the pirate ship, where they found the remains of a Starfleet Intelligence operative as well as some Starfleet technology and cargo - including live torpedoes. Meanwhile, the Captain was struck by a green beam of light while inspecting some other cargo, which knocked her unconscious. She recovered quickly in Sheppard's sickbay.

Interrogation of the 13 pirates revealed that the torpedoes were from the USS Denmark, while the rest of the cargo had been obtained through an unknown "contact".

Later on, Dr. Alexandra Swords was called from off-duty to aid in the treatment of Captain Dwi and XO Blaisdale. It had been reported that upon entering the cargo bay to reexamine the cargo taken from the pirates, Captain Dwi became agitated and shot the XO. She was sedated and brought to sickbay, where it was found that her brain had undergone considerable changes in physiological structure.
