The Sheppard arrives at the rendez-vous point to pick up Captain Dwi, out with an away team to explore Uretchan space. But the shuttle is nowhere to be found - and the Sheppard is in for a nasty surprise.

Prelude

Location: Onboard the shuttlecraft Ascendant, Sector 003E, Approximatly 36 lyrs from Pinastri

Captain's log, Stardate 110528.

-- A shuttle interior appears on the screen with the Captain's face in the foreground --

The shuttle mission is going well. We have catalogued several interesting gaseous anomalies within the nebula; the proximity to the Midgar sector's border and typical Uretchan space has, as I had hoped, allowed us to get a better idea of what's going on in Uretchan space and it's not looking pretty.

We have detected several distress calls from both planets and ships; also, several ominously quiet systems which show evidence of inhabitation. Through information provided to us by Captain Jaali I have been able to....

-- A voice interupts the Captain's log -- "Captain, you had best come up and see this..."

-- Shuttle shakes, alarms go off in the background --

-- Screen fades to black --

Events

As the Sheppard made its way to the rendez-vous coordinates with the Ascendant, it soon became clear that Captain Dwi's team was late for the rendez-vous. The only thing to be found at the rendez-vous point were two ion trails - one belonging to the Ascendant, the other unknown. Upon further exploration, the Sheppard came upon a bioship of some sort. It belonged to a species called the Relknoks who, upon being hailed, ordered the Sheppard to turn back or face destruction. Despite attempts to resolve the situation peacefully, the Relknok vessel opened fire, inflicting significant damage on the Sheppard. Executive officer Kaelin Odriscoll ordered a retreat course into the nebula, where the Sheppard found its lost shuttle floating abandoned. The ship also picked up a distress buoy broadcasting a message from Captain Dwi, whose away team had apparently also been attacked by the Relknoks. A second buoy, however, led the Sheppard to a convoy of three ships also hiding in the nebula - when contact was made with the lead ship, Captain Dwi herself answered and explained that she and the away team had been rescued by a Uretchan convoy.
