Biography

Herbert Glenfadden grew up on the Bolian home world of Bolarus IX. His father was the captain of a Bolian freighter, while his mother was a medical technician back on Bolarus. As his father left on long freight runs throughout Starfleet's Deep Space network, Herbert always wondered what life was like away from Bolarus IX. As he came of age, his father allowed him to begin working on the freighter as Chief Navigator. Herbert eagerly learned every trade route from Deep Space 1 to Deep Space 10, but quickly grew bored. Once he was through the initial training, every day began to seem the same. Navigating a freighter through the same routes, carrying the same cargoes day after day became very boring and routine for Herbert.

In his off hours, he began to frequent the various bars, lounges, promenades and holosuites throughout the stations they served at. He always heard an interesting story or two from some of the Starfleet officers who happened to be passing through the station at the time. When he learned of Starfleet's latest venture into the Delta Quadrant, and of the fact that they were heavily recruiting for new officers willing to go there, he jumped at the chance. He went to the Delta Quadrant and promptly enrolled at the Pinastri branch of Starfleet Academy. He opted to go the Enlisted route to get through the Academy and get to work as quickly as possible.

After graduation, Herbert found a place as a Science Officer aboard the SS Pathfinder. There, he began to put his talents as a navigator to use in Stellar Cartography. As a Science crewman, he was responsible for downloading star charts as ships docked and integrating them to Starfleet's larger map of the Delta Quadrant. In time, he became an academy instructor himself. He specialized in Science courses, and even did a bit of work in curriculum development. Herbert eventually became Assistant Chief Science Officer aboard SS Pathfinder, though he decided to resign from this position to focus his talents on administrative responsibilities.
