QUANTUM SLIPSTREAM
Quantum Slipstream (QSS) is a technology that can be used when very fast speeds are necessary. QSS can be used either in whole ship mode or by the stardrive section when the saucer has been detached. The saucer section when detached does not have QSS mode.
The QSS drive itself does not require anti-matter to operate, but there are large inherent instabilities and gravimetric shear that must be dealt with when using the current QSS technology. The Monarch uses the power from its main warp core to achieve the stability required for safe operation and to project a structural integrity field out ahead of the ship. This takes a great deal of power. To enter QSS mode, the Monarch's warp core must be in top-notch condition and be capable of outputting 120% of its continuous output power. At this power level, the maximum time the Monarch can stay in QSS mode is 10 minutes before the warp core overheats and must be given a rest. However, during this ten minute period significant distances can be traveled when compared to standard warp drive. For example, QSS can travel 20 ly in 10 minutes while warp 9 would take 4.8 days. This makes QSS mode ideal for rescue missions where time is of the essence.
QSS Speed (depends on the path taken)
1) Making a new path: 2 ly/min
2) Using an existing path laid down within 3 days: 300 ly/min
3) Using a Borg/Fed type hub system: 2.400 ly/min
