Biography
Sylvia was born in a non-descript suburb close to Starfleet Headquarters, which of course is located close to where San Francisco was in the former United States centuries ago. She has two parents and an older brother, Bernardo. The family has a somewhat strong old Italian flavor about it, and she is most decidedly human. Her mother was content to stay home and take care of the kids, while her father was a mid-level bureaucrat in a service organization for Starfleet. Consider him a paper pusher. However, Sylvia's parents were rather "human-centric" and tended to look down on other species. They idolize her brother, who can do no wrong. He is "golden boy." Sylvia is the afterthought, surely a surprise to them, and was pushed into private, somewhat exclusive schooling on residential bases in order to get her away from the home so they didn't have to deal with her. See, Sylvia has a tendency, once comfortable with a situation as she is rather shy at first, to speak her mind bluntly. She finds her parents boorish and dense. So, she took advantage of the opportunities provided her by their desire to push her into anything that kept her away from them, and went to excellent schools. Sylvia worked hard there, as she had little else to do while others went home on vacations, and excelled academically. Sylvia's interests were, and are, books and music. She knew there was a huge universe out there to explore, and she couldn't suffer her parents' small corner of it any longer. Thus, she enrolled in Starfleet. They were dismayed at this, feeling that a female in the family should probably get married and procreate appropriately. Sylvia felt differently. Sylvia's career goals were developed during her time at Starfleet Academy, and frankly are still being refined. However, she absolutely loves piloting small aircraft, and dreams of one day being able to pilot a large starship. Imagine the responsibility and the prestige! Hundreds of people's lives depending on your every finger move on that console. The years of reading have worsened Sylvia's eyesight some, so that she does require corrective measures (she currently wears glasses) in order to see properly. This has, however, never proved an issue. As soon as possible she left the Academy on Terra and shipped off to the Delta Quadrant to put as much distance between all things Caproni and herself. Can't imagine a better way to do it, honestly. Sylvia stepped off the transport ship at Pinastri, and have been busy acclimatizing herself to the colony and structure.
