General Information

The Shran Class is a variant on the Galaxy Class Explorer. Named after General Thy'lek Shran whose support during the founding days of the Federation made the Marines possible. The first cruiser entered service in 2374. The design behind the Shran was for a massive transport capable of moving thousands of Marines, their equipment and command missions from orbit. This differs from the Valor class which is just a transport the Shran is a Command and Control vessel. The Shran has been heavily modified from the traditional Galaxy and exploits the saucer separation greatly. The saucer is designed to stay on orbit and support ground operations with its huge medical facilities, communications systems and repair facilities onboard. The Stardrive section can leave orbit and return to collect a second load of marines. Each Shran is capable of transporting a fully equipped Marine Expeditionary Brigade. Currently they are 16 Shran Classes in service with 24 more planned before the class is reviewed for retrofit or retirement.
