Information
The engineering department has the enormous task of keeping the ship working; they are responsible for making repairs, fixing problems, and making sure that the ship is ready for anything.

Positions in Engineering
Chief Engineering Officer
Serving out of Engineering, this senior oficer is responsible for keeping all parts of the ship working, assigning engineers to fix those that aren't.
Assistant Chief Engineering Officer
Keeping a vessel working is one of the most complicated jobs around, and as such, as Assistant Chief Engineering Officer serves to assist the Chief Engineering Officer; often also serves at the engineering station on the bridge.
Warp Drive Specialist
Specialists are often specific to a single class of ship, due to the complexity of various systems. The officer in this position specializes in warp drive propulsion.
Impulse Drive Specialist
Specialists are often specific to a single class of ship, due to the complexity of various systems. The officer in this position specializes in impuse drive propulsion.
Temporal Drive Specialist
Specialists are often specific to a single class of ship, due to the complexity of various systems. The officer in this position specializes in temporal drive propulsion, which is commonly used in time travel.
Communications Specialist
Communication aboard ship/facility takes two forms: voice and data. Both are handled by the computer system, but their vastness and complexity requires specialists to help maintain and repair them.
Matter/Energy Specialist
All aspects of matter and energy transfer, with the exception of the warp drive system, are handled by these specialists.
Structural/Environmental Systems Specialist
Maintaining the internal dampening, structural integrity, and environmental systems is not an easy job; it is fufilled by these trained specialists. These specialists are also responsible for managing damage control during and after battles, and often best know the strengths of the entire engineering team and how to utilize them for repairs.
Sensor Maintenance Specialist
Sensors are an integral part of any Starfleet vessel, providing necessary information for navigation and scientific research. These specialists oversee the maintenance of all sensors on board a ship, and provides necessary modifications when needed.
Shuttlecraft Maintenance Specialist
When transporters are not an option, shuttles are used to transport crew to and from locations. Maintenance specialists are needed to ensure that all shuttles are fully operational, and ready to be used on a moments notice. They also oversee and perform any necessary repairs to the shuttles on board.
Their duties may also extend to maintenance and repair of fighter squadron vessels.
Computer Systems Specialist
Ships and vessels are dependent on very sophisticated computer systems; these specialists are responsible for maintaining them.
Engineering Officer
Non specialized engineers serve on all vessels to perform most of the standard maintenance and repair tasks.
