Captain's log, stardate 130111.0943. The Talisman has returned to Tranquility Station, albeit without the USS Puma. The station still hasnt determined exactly how the pirates escaped custody nor how they well able to steal the Talisman, but it is now suspected they had internal help. The investigation is ongoing.
We were able to run the thieves down after a bit of a chase. The captain was more crafty then I gave her credit for. Our first attempted to regain the ship failed. We tried use the Talisman's command prefix codes to bring her out of warp, but the codes were locked out. It was at this point I began to suspect someone on the inside had aided them, as there is no other way they could have had those codes.
Our next move proved more successfull. We launched a class one probe towards the Talisman, and mounted on it was a generator that emitted an electrical pulse. This pulse blinded the ship's sensors, forcing them to sublight speed as they lost the navigational sensors. This allowed us the time we needed to catch up to the ship. Once caught up, the Talisman came about and emitted a wide spectrum flash which disabled our sensors. Both ship's now flying blind, began opening fire.
As one might imagine, we were on the loosing end of a firefight with the Talisman, being as heavily outgunned as we were. I had one last card to play, requesting permission to beam over to the Talisman to discuss terms of our surrender. Once sensors were back up, we were able to see transport inhibitors in the bridge area. At the same time the pirates beamed me over, I had Lt. Commander Nadir beam into the observation lounge. With their attention focused on me, Nadir had the element of surprise. However...things didn't quite go as planned.
After an attempt to negotiate the release of the ship, the only alternative I was left with was to let them walk and escape in a shuttle so I could beam the Puma's crew over before her warp core went critical. I wasn't happy with this solution, but it meant no lives were lost. We were able to clear the Puma before she had a core breach. This mystery has gone even deeper now, and I intend to see that it is solved.
