Captain's log, stardate 100224.0836. The initial survey teams have beamed down to Gildash IV and have set up their base site of operations. It is our hope that we can discover why these cities have since been abandoned, as well as learning who inhabited this planet at one time. Perhaps the planet can even been recycled and used as a Federation colony planet, should command deem that a logical move. I look forward to this mission, and discovering whatever it is we may find down there.

The crew of the USS Talisman began an archeological survey of Gildash IV on stardate 100224.1705. The significance of this survey were the cities the Talisman's sensors located that had appeared to be abandoned for quite some time. An expedition was sent down to attempt to determine why the cities were abandoned and perhaps the possibility of recycling the planet into a Federation colony. The initial week of excavation proved fruitful as Lieutenant Lans Starsider and his team unearthed a museum-esque building. Within contained many relics and artifacts, but not much that explained who the civilization was or why they were missing. Toward the end of the first week, a Sakarian-type vessel had begun similiar expeditions on an orbiting moon. Initially they stated their interests were solely on the first moon of Gildash IV and confrontation with them would not be imminent. This position degraded as the weeks went on however, as the Talisman's crew discovered evidence of a devestating weapon hidden on the planet surface and thus it was believed the Sakarians were searching for it. This suspicsion was confirmed when Lieutenant Commander Jackson T. Jayaram and Lieutenant Cleo Mavendorf found a small device on the surface in one of the abandoned buildings in the first city. This device was determined to be some typ eof energy collector able to store energy and re-direct it in the form of a beam. This theory fit with the fact that a large crater that had initially been believed to be an impact crater was later determined to be a blast crater. Everything came togeather and fell into place when a Kazon attack cruiser had a skirmish with the Sakarian ship. The Talisman detected a large build up of energy on the Sakarian ship that would confirm their suspicsion that they were searching for the same type of weapon the Talisman away team discovered. The skirmish left both the Kazon and Sakarians disabled and helpless. Upon instructions from the Talisman, the Sakarian's jetisoned the energy collector they had retrieved and were beamed aboard the Talisman. Unfortunately, the crew of the Talisman were only able to retrieve the Sakarian crew. The Kazon ship's warp core was breaching and did not allow time for the Talisman to close in to transporter range. To avoid destruction, the Talisman pulled away from both the Kazon ship and the jetisoned energy collecor. The Kazon's warp core breached, and the ensuing explosion detonated the energy device. The Kazon ship was destroyed with all hands on deck. The Talisman had moved to a safe distence only a few slight seconds ahead of the warp breach and deposited the Sakarians off to the USS Aegis for transport back to Pinastri.
