=Captain's Log=

Captain's log, stardate 130117.1625. The Talisman is on a boarder patrol near its trailing boarder along the Excalibur sector. While on patrol, sensors picked up an unusual reading from a pulsar along the boarder. From this distence, science can't really put a finger on why the readings are so odd, so I have ordered the Talisman in for a closer look. Excalibur colony's internal defenses should be able to alert us to any incoming threats, so I percieve no danger for this assaignment.

Captain's log, supplemental. The strange pulsar we picked up was more then it appeared to be, or at least was masking something. During the course of our investigation of it, we found a very small object inside the pulsar. The object seemed to be acting as some sort of relay or control device, as we found energy being fed into the pulsar by what we believed to be cloaked objects. We were unable to determine what those cloaked objects were or who constructed them. The pulsar was having negatory effects on our ODN, but Lieutenant Oaksi was able to modifiy our systems to keep them protected from the pulsars effects. As she did that, Commander Nadir was working out a way to get more information from this phenomenom.

All current information is pointing towards the discovery of a new race of beings. The pulsar was giving off energy pulses at a constant rate, but definitley with a pattern. Our best guess is there is some sort of message embedded in the pulses. Sending communications in this manner would be a rather slow, but effective way of sending messages across a really vast distence. We havnt yet traced the origin point of the signal, but we have however left behind several probes to attempt to triangulate it.

The creators of this sort of advanced technology could very well be in the far reaches of the quadrant, possibly even beyond our galaxy. There is as of yet no way to know. With any luck, we'll have at least a basic idea of how far out these beings actually are within the next few days.
