Commanding Officer Poison Toocool - Log, Stardate 120209: We have received a repeating signal on long range comms from an Antares class freighter claiming to be travelling to Treman. They are asking for urgent assistance due to sickness on board. Their chief engineer is in a coma and they are losing power and may drift into the asteroid belt on the outskirts of the Takaar Nebula... they are most certainly off course. I have ordered LTjg Bravin and the Norway Class cruiser USS Mak'ala NCC-64993 to intercept the freighter and offer assistance. The Intrepid Class USS Argonaut is to remain in the FGC - 5002997 system and mediate peace talks between FGC - 1 and FGC - 2.

Reporting: Captain David7 Bravin, USS Mak'ala, 120212: Whilst aboard the USS Mak'ala, in orbit around planet FGC-1, we were informed by Astraios that they had received a message from an Antares Class Freighter, asking for urgent assistance. Apparently the vessel was losing power and drifting towards an asteroid belt on the outskirts of the Takaar Nebula. There was sickness aboard and their Chief Engineer was in a coma. We were ordered intercept and see what we could do to help.

I called Captain Quar aboard the USS Arganout, which was also in orbit around planet FGC-1, and informed him of the situation and my orders. I wished him well in trying to mediate peace talks between the two planets FGC-1 and FGC-2.

I ordered that we set a course to intercept the freighter and proceed at warp 5.

We hailed the vessel and I spoke to the Captain about their request for assistance. He confirmed the situation with regard to several crew being ill, and his Chief Engineer being in a coma, adding that their engines had failed and that they were now adrift, heading towards the asteroid belt. I informed him that we were on our way to give assistance. At our Dr. Markus' request, we arranged for her to speak directly with the doctor aboard the freighter in order to get as much information as possible about the sickness and medical supplies that might be needed.

When we met the freighter, I decided that we needed to beam over with two teams. The first team being Medical, initially to help treat the sick and then to work alongside Science to try and establish the cause of the sickness. The second team being Engineering, to try and get the engines back on line and to avert a collision with any asteroids. As advised by Dr. Markus, I ordered that the Away Teams should all wear protective suits.

I beamed across to the freighter along with the Medical and Engineering teams. I set the two teams to work in the freighter's Medical facility and in the Engineering section.

I visited both teams in turn to see how they were progressing.

The Medical team reported that the course of treatment that was being used by the freighter's doctor was ineffective. Also they had found a parasite that may be responsible for the sickness.

The Engineering team reported that they had found an unidentified organic material with a mix of metaloids that may be cause of the engine failure.

It was then that I suddenly started to feel unwell..............
